PPP link down

Just noticed from my router log that I lost my PPP link this morning at 10:40 anyone else lose theirs?

didn't lose my DSL synch though.

I lost mine today at 00:46, didn't even notice, though I was online at the time. I wonder if it's anything to do with load-balancing?

Well, in that case, first the line is established with LCP, it then proceeds to connect to the ISP using CHAP, after which a PPP session is established, remembering that this is all referring to PPoA. 

Put another way, the modem talks to the DSLAM and works out how to communicate, it then logs onto the ISP using the login name and password (CHAP), once that connection is established, a PPP session can begin, also known as being online!

If you really want to know...

LCP: Short for Link Control Protocol, a protocol that is part of the PPP. In PPP communications, both the sending and receiving devices send out LCP packets to determine specific information that will be required for the data transmission. The LCP checks the identity of the linked device and either accepts or rejects the peer device, determines the acceptable packet size for transmission, searches for errors in configuration and can terminate the link if the parameters are not satisfied. Data cannot be transmitted over the network until the LCP packet determines that the link is acceptable.

CHAP: CHAP is an authentication scheme used by Point to Point Protocol (PPP) servers to validate the identity of remote clients. CHAP periodically verifies the identity of the client by using a three-way handshake. This happens at the time of establishing the initial link, and may happen again at any time afterward. The verification is based on a shared secret (such as the client user's password).

I just checked my router..............all the system/security logs are gone,I show 13 days since last boot,DSL Connection= 0Days 9hrs 54 mins
Internet Connection= 1 Day 4hrs 52 mins
and my synch has dropped.

So there have been "things" going on (or off  )

That sounds like you lost sync a bit before 7am, whereas most of us are just seeing the PPP session drop.

All my logs are gone too...this is one thing I don't like about the Speedtouch

It's quite reassuring to be able to check on here and see others reporting service issues. At least I know I'm not on my own.

I agree...still getting my head around this router...had it for 3 months now. It's a refurb from DSL Depot so I never know whether that's to blame for things like this or whether it's just the Speedtouch.

The Help file says "The Recorded Events table gives you an overview of the last event logs that have been recorded since the SpeedTouch™ was turned on." but it  hasn't been turned off!

FWIW the log in the GUI is even worse and tends to show even less of the log. I either have to refer to the CLI or use the DMT tool for more info. In this case however, there is nothing more in the CLI.

UPDATE

Just noticed yesterday's router log (I email them to myself). I had a second drop of LCP at 10:38:42 yesterday morning, around the time everyone else is reporting. The break in the PPP session lasted 5 seconds.

The only reason I noticed was that I was at a secure site and the screen flashed that "internet connection lost" and I had to log back in again.

I think it has to be related to the load balancing, it's the only thing that makes sense - and explains the small time spread. If it were a BT issue, it would be unlikely to have the geographical spread.

I know, Lance, and my doctor has warned me about it, but you know how the adrenaline rush kicks in...
