I know we place a lot of pressure on you with regard to answering our questions but , can you explain what are gw4, gw5, gw6 etc. Is there a gw7/8/9? Why is it that gw6 is causing problems?

Maybe this is way beyond your expertise ( I very much doubt this ) but it would be nice to have some answers to these questions.

Here we go again     Slow peak time speeds again, so I come and check the forum and find others with problems. Is IDNet over capacity again? I'm on GW6 and my 7150 profile is generating average throughputs of around 2.5mbps between now and late evening. Fine for me as a single user, not so fine when both my children and I wish to use the web at the same time. And I don't believe it's exchange congestion either, as my neighbour, with BT of all people, is getting 6.5mbps+ all evening.

Yes, I know... ring support. But how, when they aren't manned at times to suit the average working man?

If IDNet are shunting users back and forth between pipes, that makes me very suspicious that capacity is becoming an issue again.

I'm assured capacity is not an issue and that their monitoring shows no congestion. You can call support out of hours, or arrange for them to call you at a convenient time.

I'll give them a call then. Call me a cynic, but ever since the last capacity problem - which, if you remember, was denied for ages and temporarily resolved for those who complained loudest by a move to a less congested pipe - any assurances of adequate capacity are met with a good pinch of salt.

I've just had a loss of PPP connection (or whatever the correct term is). Router stayed synced at 8128, couldn't access web for around 2 minutes. Something is amiss, as my connection is usually solid for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours at a time.

Have emailed support about slow speeds, so we'll see what happens, and when.

It helps, in as much as it shows that things a varying. My line however, since the dropped PPP session a few minutes ago, is now slower than dial-up. It's taken me over a minute to get the forum page to open.

It was the sluggishness of the forum which made me run a BT test earlier. Since being moved to GW5, though, things are normal again.
