I feel the need to issue a warning. I'm going to praise Microsoft so you might want to sit down before reading further 

I'm very fussy about what I use for a mouse. I generally use Razor products because they are highly configurable and have Teflon feet. They also have a lot of design faults which usually means they rarely last. The Razor manufactured Microsoft Habu mouse is a good example of this, great when it works but they don't work for very long which is unfortunate for Microsoft because mine came with a three year warranty. Nevertheless after the retail outlet felt they they had fulfilled their obligations by replacing my mouse once in the first year of warranty, Microsoft have just sent me the second replacement.

One phone call, one email and week later it arrived, no questions asked and no fuss made. If only everything else in life was made so easy. Well done Microsoft. I still don't forgive you for Vista though

I also like MS mice, Zap, but like you I find they don't last. MS, though, seem happy to replace, so I go on using them.

I have a similar story, a few years ago my trustworth Intellimouse Explorer 3 began to randomly drop out.  Now I didn't have the receipt from the retail outlet where I bought it and it was over a year old.  A phone call to Microsoft and about 5 minutes later they replaced it completely free of charge.  All that they asked was I send the broken one back.

Now they relaunched this excellent mouse about a year ago, albeit in a darker colour, so I bought three to keep me going.

I'm another fan of Microsoft mice as well. I've never had a problem and find them really light on battery useage as well!

Credit where credit's due, Microsoft's hardware tends to be very good.
