Frequent loss of connection

Today I keep losing my connection every 30 seconds or less, 1st the adsl light goes out then the internet light goes, then a few seconds later it reconnects, is this an idnet problem or a bt problem? & anyone else having similiar trouble?

It's more likely to be a BT problem. Loss of sync is caused by an issue with your router, line or the BT equipment at the exchange.

Loss of sync is likely to be a local issue. Could you run something like RouterStats so we can see what is going on with your SNRM? :)

Agree with Sebby there (although it could still possibly be BT if it's just started happening), if possible are you able to post your line stats from your router?

thanks for the replies all, it appears to be behaving now, must have been bt doing some work.

Always possible right now, there's the 21CN and WBC work in addition to routine maintenance.

Checked with support, they're not seeing 30 second drops, you did lose sync from ~4:55-18:03, but it looks from their end like the router re-started. Are you connected with a cable or wirelessly?

Its been fine for a couple of hours since the outage, but now its playing up again, every minute or two the whole adsl is off for about 30 seconds then back on again, gonna have to ring idnet tomoroow myself if this persists, ty for taking the time to check with them.

Do you have a BT master socket with a removable lower half? If so, could you remove the plate carefully, and connect your router to the socket behind it?

I've also ssent a message to idnet through the "contact us" option, hopefully i will hear something tomorrow (if i can stay connected long enough to open my email ;) )

Your normal stats are absolutely fine. But when you lose sync, the noise margin (show above as a large number, actually indicating a negative figure) is fallen a substantial amount, which suggests bursts of noise. It's worth trying the test socket for a while when you can to see if this solves it. If it does, your issue is with internal wiring, which we can hopefully help you to solve.

Just a thought, but have you got any new electrical equipment which has been recently set up, like a DECT phone, or anything which could be affecting your internal wiring?

nope changed absolutely nothing this end, & for the last 90 minutes it seems to be working normally again, hope it lasts this time.

The first thing IDNet are going to ask you to do is plug the router in to the test socket, if you have one. Then look at things like ring wires if you have multiple sockets and, finally, check with another router. Given your normal line stats, you've either got one huge noise source near you, or your router is tripping over.
