How can I monitor line quality, drops etc over time on a Netgear DG834G?

As Simon said, Routerstats works well. That's what I'm using at the moment with my DG834G V4

I spoke to support last night around 6.15pm and they said I had around 70 line drops yesterday. I've since at their suggestion moved the router to the BT test socket and I'm trying to work out if the problem has gone away. Where would I find line stats?

The uptime is since it went on the BT test socket.

The instability has pushed you target noise margin to 15db, which is costing you about 2000k of sync speed over the normal 6db target NM. For your attenuation, I'd expect a full 8128 sync. That you've now had 22+ hours of uptime at the test socket suggests strongly that you have a problem with your internal phone wiring. Do you have a number of hard-wired extensions? What's connected to them?

Thanks for the help.

There are hard wired extensions all over the house, there's nothing attached to any of them. I had the dropouts even with the router into the main BT logo socket, but in contrast into the BT test socket on the same faceplate and the dropout problem seems to be gone. Does that mean that some sort of interference somewhere in the extensions is "infecting" all the extensions except the BT test socket?

Yes, most likely you have the ring wire connected. Most commonly it's orange/white in colour, but it's the wire on terminal three. It needs to be disconnected at all sockets including the master. It acts as a giant antenna and collects noise into the system. The other possibility is that one or more of the extensions is doing the same. I had to get two removed when I went to Max, it stopped my connection altogether.

Thanks. I think I'll stick with the router in the test socket then. It's a rented house and we'll be out in 3 months or so.

Anything I can do to restore my profile? Just wait?
