Any help with this would be great. I have 4 different routers all capable of adsl 2+ but only one of them works, which is the netgear dg834g. Now the other routers used to work ok on adsl max but since the change to adsl2+ only the netgear works. They recognise the adsl ok but i cant access any websites. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Some routers don't work with some MSANs. I'd guess you are connected to a Huawei (sp?), which is the one which has caused quite a few problems, except with Netgear. What routers don't work?

Have you ensured you're running the latest firmware on those routers?

glen

Ok thanks for your replies. One is a edimax AR-7084A wired router. Another is a billion 5200g r4 and one is a net-lynx with a globespan virata chipset as far as i'm aware all with latest firmware apart from the net-lynx which is impossible to find.

My guess is that they're not compatible with the MSAN, do any of them give a vendor code for it?

Sorry Rik what do you mean by vendor code?
Also the routers that didn't work were giving totally different wan ip addresses than the usual one's,
and dns addresses.

Rik has left the building, so hopefully someone else will answer that, Glen, as I certainly don't have a clue.  :(

For Netgear DG834G you need to enable debug (see kitz for instructions sorry no access to relevant page from work PC) and then telnet into the router and use the command below

usr/sbin/adslctl info --vendor

This should give you the vendor code the definitions are in another thread.

It's the manufacturer of the MSAN (what was referred to as DSLAM on ADSL2). There's been some trouble with one of the manufacturers. The name escapes me, but it's the one that's not Texas Instruments. ;D

MSAN codes

ALCB = Alcatel (now ST Micro)
ANDV = Analog Devices
BDCM = Broadcom
GSPN = Globespan
IFTN = Infineon (Huawei)
STMI = ST Micro
TMMB = Thomson Multimedia Broadband
TSTC  = Texas Instruments

Netgear DG834Gv4
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
telnet 192.168.0.1
usr/sbin/adslctl info --vendor

I can't seem to get that telnet to work on my dg834g v4. i enter it from a cmd prompt?

boysteve

On XP
Start>run>telnet
type"open 192.168.0.1" then enter user+password
Vista enable telnet first in control panel windows features

Thanks for your reply Steve but cant use that command in telnet as I'm using dg834g v3, so I'll
probably google it and see if that gives me anything.

After a bit of googling I found that bt's 21cn msan's are either Fujitsu or Huawei, so most likely I'm using Huawei
thats the one causing alot of problems apparently.
Heres a wee link but it is four year

I remember seeing some users on on a Texas msan so they aren't limited to just those two makes unfortunately.

Yeah you probably right cos that link I posted was 4 years old and you would think they would use more than 2 types.
