That looks more like the line's 'natural' level, Arathorn, but without a ringwire you may gain the speed back.

Hi Rik

On a wing and a prayer, I'll admit, I attacked pin 3 with my trusty pliers, rebooted the router and here are the before and after stats (The BT speedtester is busy this evening)

16 July

DSL            Down            Up
Current Rate:    14369 kbs       1189 kbs
Max Rate:       15437 kbs       1189 kbs
Current Connection:
Current Noise Margin:     8.2 dB        6.6 dB
Current Attenuation:    25.8 dB       11.8 dB
Current Output Power:    16.8 dBm       12.4 dBm

16 July (2)

DSL            Down            Up
Current Rate:    18000 kbs       1185 kbs
Max Rate:       18593 kbs       1185 kbs
Current Connection:
Current Noise Margin:     6.5 dB        6.8 dB
Current Attenuation:    25.6 dB       11.7 dB
Current Output Power:    16.1 dBm       11.8 dBm

Thanks for the advice guys

Cheers

I've now managed a BT Speed test and I'm slightly confused by it:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 18000 kbps (DOWN-STREAM), 1184 kbps (UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 12000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 7407 kbps

It acknowledges the new DSL connection rate but the IP throughput seems on the low side.

Is there a training period for ADSL2 + ?

The profile is wrong, and even so, throughput is low for the current profile. There is a training period, but it's pretty irrelevant.

The fact that the profile is incorrect suggests some instability. When the profile has caught up (do some more BT speed tests every so often) post the results again and we'll take it from there.

MisterW

It will take the Profile a little while to catch up with the increased Sync. Maybe a few days , not sure on the actual timescales on ADSL2+. As for the throughput figures , I think its generally accepted that the BT speedtest is a waste of space for throughput figures!!

One week after removing the ring wire my connection has stabilized as follows:

My DSL Connection rate has been constant at 18000 kbps

My IP Profile has been at 15000 kbps for the last 3 days.

My IP throughput, however, has been very variable. For example, here are today's Speed test readings which represent the week's high and low.

23 July 2009 (0700)

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 18000 kbps (DOWN-STREAM), 1188 kbps (UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 15000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 14124 kbps

Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4685 kbps

Following the latter test I did one from speed.io

My question is, now that the router seems well synchronised with the exchange, is my throughput like a yo-yo?

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Cheers

For that, look in the parent "IDNet Help" forum and see all the throughput complaints about BT WBC.

My profile has been 17000 for a month and I now go between 5M and 11M after starting of at 16M
