Hi all, have been having problems with speed and have been advised that the line is retraing ,can anyone advise how long this process takes ? it seems to be dragging on a bit  :shake:

Current Rate:         6405 kbs         1044 kbs
Max Rate:       6829 kbs       1044 kbs
Current Connection:
Current Noise Margin:       7.8 dB       6.0 dB
Current Attenuation:       43.3 dB       24.5 dB
Current Output Power:       19.5 dBm       12.1 dBm
This means nothing to me

Tried to carry out a BT test but it would not perform

Speedtest.Net is not that reliable David, It showed my line as having a 21Mb/s download once, and I am on normal ADSL Max, as far as I am aware a line retrain takes ten days. You really need to get a BT speedtest if you can.

Edit: Have you got the latest version of the Java runtime environment David?, You need that for the BT speedtest, check it here http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp just click on verify Java.

Thanks Gary all that showed was line speed 2000 but it failed to test so now I have to wait 3 hours TBB shows

26/06/09 10:23:27
Speed Down    1896.36 Kbps ( 1.9 Mbps )
Speed Up    881.14 Kbps ( 0.9 Mbps )
Port    8095
Server    speedtest1.thinkbroadband.com

I have taken the faceplate off,put it back on to no avail will try again with BT later on Thanks  :(

:fingers: it works better later, as your throughput is low, and your noise margin of 7.8 is not that high to indicate a lot of disconnects. But really you need to wait till the training period is up as the line will be tested to find the most stable point by BT's gear.

:thnks: I think support have done all they can now but it has been a while and I had hoped for the stability by now

Hi David

The line speed of (profile) of 2000 from the BT speedtest is what is limiting you and is the default starting profile for a new connection. Line traiing is 10 days but if you've been stuck at the 2000 for a few days support should be able to get BT to un-stick it (its normally the only thing BT will do within the training period).

:thnks: Lance I have had speeds of 5.5 and only a day ago I was on 4 but it just reverts back to this 1.9..I will see how it goes and get onto them next week thanks

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 6404 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1043 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1848 kbps

Managed this at last

You've got a stuck 2Mb profile, which is common when you migrate to a different service. Once it clears, your throughput should increase.

As a matter of interest what causes a profile to stick and is it conceivable that it could remain stuck indefinitely?

I may be wrong, but I thought IDNet could get a stuck profile cleared?

Im just sinking lower and there is nothing I can do about it.....I have gone from a faulty dial out to putting interleaving on...filter on faceplate off I just want my old service back  >:(

So sorry to hear you're still having trouble, David.  You can, of course, ask IDNet to revert you back to standard ADSL.

It just seems to be something that BT do. It's not stuck in the traditional sense.

They can, though this isn't strictly a stuck profile.

Gary

It does seem the new ADSL 2+ system has its kinks Sebby.  :( its a shame IDNet are not capable of using their own LLU

My profile was well and truly stuck for a few days when I moved house.  IDNet sorted it within an hour or so after I rang them.
Went from sub 2000 to over 7000 within minutes.

I had a stuck one with Orange and they did not admit it  >:( took weeks, Idnet are the fastest at sorting out issues I have ever had, I think its a learning curve with all on ADSL 2 though.

Think I had better ask to go back to my cosy warm ADSL Gary this seems to have stumped them and its painfully slow .I dont think this is a stuck profile though I have had that before and it was an easy fix .this is imo or relates to the new service which I made an error on signing up to as I found out after my line could not cope with any more so in download speed it remained the same but the up did increase but sadly thats when the problems began.....

Tonight is getting so I will just turn off until Monday as this is getting so I cant use the two course I am on at the moment .. :-\

Well, you know you'll have IDNet's full support, as far as they can give it, David

It's not that they're not capable, it's that it's too expensive for a small player like IDNet.

We have the technology but not, it seems the infra structure ...BT s failure to invest ?  :dunno:

Thats what I meant Sebby, I worded it badly sorry, it is ferociously expensive but  much better in many ways, seeing the BT teething issues I am glad I cant upgrade so far, hopefully the kinks will have been ironed out when it gets to my exchange, but this is BT we are talking about  ;)
