There is a marked improvement  :thumb:.... (former ADSL figures in red)

DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Protocol: G.DMT2+ Annex A
Downstream Rate: 9985 kbps  7264 kbps
Upstream Rate: 868 kbps  448 kbps
Channel: Fast
Current Noise Margin: 12.0 dB (Downstream) 8.2 dB (Upstream) 12.0 dB (Downstream) 22.0 dB (Upstream)

Current Attenuation: 35.6 dB (Downstream) 18.4 dB (Upstream) 31.7 dB (Downstream) 17.5 dB (Upstream)

Also my pings have gone back to something resembling what I was getting when I first joined all those years ago.

So, am I now in a training period? Are my stats likely to go up (or down)?

From what I understand, ADSL2+ is rate adaptive, so it's always likely to vary a bit.

Glad you're happy so far.  :tbumb:

Yup very happy so far. :fingers: ;D

My connection halted just now and my 2700 advised a restart, which I did. My downs have gone down but my ups have gone up.

I think that's in the spec, but not the BT implementation. Surprise, surprise...

I've tried a few speed tests and they aren't that great.
The different tester's overall results vary but are individually consistent. (can't get on to the BT tester at all)

thinkbroadband came in with a lowball...

... while speedtest.net came back with a higher guesstimate.

Looking good! THe change in pings suggests that it was indeed BT with the problem.

As for the speed, it may well be that your profile needs time to catch up with your sync.

The stats look good. Do a BT speed test if you can so we can see the profile.

Noreen

I've found that the best time to get on the BT test site is around 8.30am, never seems to be busy then.

ou7shined

I've finally managed to get it to work....

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 9920 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  960 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6693 kbps

That shows that your profile us still the maximum available prior to the switch. Hopefully it should sort itself out within five days of change over but if it doesn't contact support.

The profile should go up to 8000k for that sync. :)

ou7shined

Well that's 2k more than I had before. :)

My connection has been quite flakey all day. I take it that's just everything settling down yeah?

More than likely. Mine was all over the shop for the first couple of days. Then it settled right down and has been stable for several days now.

That's because the profile is wrong due to the instability. Once things settle down, the profile will adjust and your throughput will reflect the increased sync. :)

I had similar problems myself especially with throughput, which just went lower and lower. Went back to adsl max and throughput is getting back to normal at last. Any way good luck.

The sync has changed between the time you copied that information from the router and did the speed test. It looks like your main problem is instability. Remind me, have you tried the test socket/removing ring wires?

ou7shined

I'm still plugged directly into the test socket since the malarkey a few weeks back.
Rich.

Sebby

Oh yes, apologies, I lose track. ;D

Clearly there's something wrong with your line, but I don't know what to suggest if BT won't do anything. Have you contacted IDNet to see if they can suggest anything?

ou7shined

No worries man.

Not yet. I was kind of hoping that this was just part of settling in. My pings heading back up has alarm bells ringing though, yeah? I'm not sure if dropping connections is supposed to be expected during this time - but is sure is a pain manually rebooting my router each time.

Is there an errors page for my 2700 that I can put up here that might clarify things?
Rich.

Klaatu barada nikto!

Sebby

Settling in is often misunderstood. The only thing that may happen is the target SNRM is raised to increase stability, but a) this should happen almost straight away, and b) it can happen at any time, not just in the training period.
