El Reg is reporting that MS toook a full year to issue a fix for IE:

QuoteMicrosoft was aware of a critical vulnerability in an Internet Explorer component at least 12 months before attackers started targeting it in lethal exploits that take full control of end-users' PCs, a member of its security team said Wednesday.

The disclosure comes as attacks targeting the MSVidCtl ActiveX control vulnerability have increased exponentially. On Monday, online ads distributed by the Giant Realm network on popular gaming websites began including code that exploits the bug, according to security firm ScanSafe. The ads mean that anyone using IE to browse sites such as diii.net and incgamers.com are risk if they run the XP or 2003 versions of Windows and have not yet installed a quick fix.

The fix is here:

As they have admitted that they knew about the vulnerabity, I wonder if any company that has lost money as a result of it could sue them, I doubt it though

So do I, Glenn. It would be nice, though. :)

What I want to know is why anyone is still using IE...

Rik

Well, because if you work for Orange and use anything but IE6, for example, they fine you £250...

It's quite unbelievable, though not surprising. Unfortunately, a lot of companies use web-based systems that do not work with anything newer than IE6. This, of course, is Microsoft's fault, for making such a non-compliant browser.

Of course it's Microsofts fault  :eyebrow:  I have the same problem trying to play my audio tapes in my CD player as well and thats Sony's fault  ;D

No, seriously, it is Microsoft's fault. They made a browser, that the majority of the world uses. It doesn't comply with web standards to even the slightest degree. Therefore, web developers have to hack their code so much to make it work properly in IE that it doesn't work on anything else.
