I suspect that it is classed as terrible by the same people that always think that MS and anything put out by them is terrible  ::) They are all using windows 95 and can not see any reason to upgrade to 98  >:D

Clearly you are not a fan of 8 but there does appear to be quite a lot of support for it, on this thread at least, it can't be that terrible :dunno:

I'm only joking around. It's an okay browser, but I'll do what I can to promote something that complies with web standards where possible - I'd love to see the demise of IE.

How ? in what way? please be specific

Mainly because it's slow to render in comparison to other browsers and doesn't comply with web standards to any sort of degree.

I think the people that class it as terrible are using Firefox. ;D

Rik

I'd agreed, Seb. I was slow to move to Firefox, but once I did, there was no going back.

  • Well, for a start it doesn't have an FTP client (FireFTP) that you can integrate into the browser

  • Also, in IE8 there is no volume control in the Status bar (unless I've got a hybrid copy)

  • You can't type into the address bar and have the browser automatically find the site you want - works for me virtually every time in Firefox

For me, they are just some of the bonuses of a browser like Firefox, but not the main reason for using it.

What is your main reason? The faster rendering?

IE is a SPAM magnet and is the best reason of all for not using it...unless you like SPAM that is.  ::)

There are other reasons for using FF:

The added functionality from FF Add-ons. Try Xmarks for example, but there are hundreds.

FF is available across ALL platforms, so you don't have to abandon your browser.

Sky/Easylink LLU. Thankfully! ;-)

Mainly, and the fact that I know it's a compliant browser. The add-ons are great as well.

sobranie

I find 8 friendly, speedy and a joy to behold having used it continually since last night!!
Apparently there's lots of gizmos/gimmicks on board and I shall studiously ignore them all.
OK, truth will out, I d/l it along with updates and a bottle of Bells last night so will leave it on pro tem and will have a moan about it if any probs manifest themselves.

talos

Me too, no real prob's with 8,    YET :fingers:
