QuoteMicrosoft has fired its latest salvo at Google, announcing a free web-based version of its Office software.

Office 2010 will include lightweight versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote when it ships next year.

The new web offering will compete with Google's free online Docs suite launched three years ago.

Personally I use Open Office, it's freeware and as good if not better the MS version

Google Docs is quite good, but they will store you data forever and there is no way of knowing who will be given access to it, certainly Governments will be able to get access.

I would use OO, but having several years worth of accounts in MS Office formats, I found that OO didn't convert my existing files quite right, so I've stuck with Office 2003.

I think online document editing is the future, so it's a good move by MS. Plus, Office has the best interface, imo.

I think the lack of security or trust will scupper that, I certainly would not use it

I know what you mean. I have the same concerns, but I do think online stuff is the future.
