Using Vodafone dongle. Had no connection for the last hour and a half. Tried all I know, tried to contact support, continuously engaged. Would assume there is a serious problem?

Anyone else? :(

Your password is incorrect, Q, try resetting the router and setting it up from scratch.

I know nothing about Vodafone dongles. I just came here to see how you'd posted with no connection ;)
Have I lost my way?

What interests me is just how many members have shared that particular IP address. :)

Just got back home.

This morning, absolutely nowt connection, tried all the basic things to get connected without success, changed router and had difficulty in setting it up again ( that's why I had the wrong password). A few minutes ago fixed up the original router (the one that was not getting a connection this morning) and bingo! all back to normal.

It would appear that during the night we had a heavy thunderstorm and some gubbins in the local exchange had gone on the fritz (technical term ;D). and BT's finest rode into town and righted the fritzed item. Apologies for the long tale of woe and thanks once again for your help ;)

Rik

Glad it's sorted, Q. I hate thunder!!

If you purchase a USB dongle from Vodafone (there are others) and load it with 1 Gb, or more if you wish, then plug it into either your desktop or laptop you will be connected via the vodafone mobile telephone service. It really is a great thing to have in reserve as I found out this morning.

In lots of areas you will be connected by a high speed connection (3G) which is pretty fast but where I am in a remote area I only connect at a slower speed which is still good for 'emergencies'

With all the things that could go wrong with your connection I think the dongle is a good investment ;)

No-one should be without one.  :thumb:

you make me jealous quandam. can you send those bt engineers to dalkeith?
If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that 'says something' about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality

So pretty much the same job that I can do with my 3G mobile phone used as a modem, but with an inclusive allowance on the contract :)

Steve

Edit: Out of interest I did a speedtest:

Not too bad for emergency backup :)

Absolutely! Many forget that this facility is a great belt and braces job ;) Only my system is a simple one off payment and 'sits' there waiting to be used when required :thumb:

And it can be topped up. And it can do up to 3.6 Mbps. And it doesn't expire after 30 days. ;)
=Bob=.
Sky/Easylink LLU. Thankfully! ;-)

Rik

Which is useful for a bakup device, compared to the service from 3.
