Re-boot, Gary, if that doesn't cure it, check with support. I know they had one VP peak around this time yesterday.

will do Rik  :sigh: I think i'll go in the garden first, at least that does not need rebooting to look nice

The solution is coming next month it would seem.

Do you have further information?

QuoteWe are constantly monitoring traffic levels to try to ensure that no one connection reaches the point of congestion. When BT allow us to move all our 20CN traffic onto our 21CN Gigabit host link in the next month or so then the problem of balancing the traffic should then be a thing of the past. Please bear with us while this work is ongoing.

The little words "or so" make me shudder a bit, especially when you consider that I rebooted and got this:

And that's with my line syncing at 15332. Pings are down [as in worse by...] around 18 or 19 ms for me this evening

I'm afraid you're being affected by a different problem, which the above information is unlikely to change.

This is for IDNet's 20CN users i.e. those on ADSL max packages, who I'm guessing are soon (if it goes to plan) due to be routed via BT Wholesale's 21CN network? Therefore as the old BT Centrals are being retired, it doesn't make financial sense for IDNet to buy more capacity. Resulting in temporary situations where congestion is noticeable.

I think that's quite a good summing up, which even I can understand.  :karmic:

Just as a footnote, this move to the 21CN network requires a product called IPStream Connect from BT. Early trial results have shown seamless transitions for those on non-WBC exchanges, so we're hopeful that it will not produce any of the pain that some WBC users have had. Like IDNet's hostlink, BT are a year late delivering. :sigh:

I just hope a month is more like it, I too fear the  use of the word so I know IDNet have had BT issues but some of this capacity trouble must be a bad call on their part in hedging bets on future capacity needs with WBC migration. Putting all your eggs into one basket which then may get dropped is a bad move, even if the financial methodology they have used is sound, with expensive centrals being no longer needed when ipstream connect goes live. If other niche ISP's can cover capacity better than Idnet, then apart from blaming BT who have obviously not helped the situation, maybe they should also be looking at the decisions that got them here in the first place.

Rik

Larger ISPs can more easily afford to fund centrals which will quickly become redundant, Gary. Factor in the 3 month lead time for a central and the 3 year contract requirement, and you can see why the situation has arisen. IDNet's planning has been rendered useless by BT's inability to deliver products on time.

Thats True Rik, and I accept that, but they also gambled a little on an unproven product, maybe not the safest move  :-\ at least there is light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope its not a flashing one saying slow down  ;)

Had IPStream Connect been delivered on time, along with the hostlink, the problems would not have arisen, Gary. It's a difficult juggling act, because the alternative to the present situation would be higher charges or lower bandwidth allowances.

Maybe they should have got Alistair Darling to help

There is another training period. I saw interleaving go on in an attempt to correct the errors, then the target margin was lifted to 9db, same as for Max. I've gained 500k some of the time, upstream is slower than SuperMax. Like you, I am not greatly impressed, but at least I haven't had the pain that some have suffered, hopefully to be sorted by Monday evening according to BT.

Been having some problems the last 2 days with a lot of disconnects, suspect bt have messed something up again as I had this problem once a while back with idnet too, but it mysteriously stopped after a while, anyhow, been in touch with Aquiss support about it & found something interesting out when I asked about the possible line retraining maybe being the cause of disconnects:

"lines don't retrain anymore, which is something else we have seen mentioned on various sites. Lines are training all the time as part of the DLM systems at the exchange, especially more so with 21CN WBC."

Rik

TBH, lines have always 'trained' continuously with DLM, the initial training period is, imo, a smoke screen by BT to keep people off their backs initially.
