Up until 1 week or so ago i had reasonable speed no where near my 8mb but put up with it, now i having been getting .5mb for past week & tried different things support team have said but to no avail, but heh it's been a blast & as they say all good things must come to a end.

Rik

Have support given you any explanation?

I done the 3 bt speedtests they looked into it & told me it must be a internal wiring fault.  I had a new phone point put in not so long ago no where near master socket (upstairs bedroom) but surely this would have no effect?  As i say up until week ago i was getting steady 2mb although paying for 8mb  but was happy enough as not long moved home & line isn't as good as previous.

Rik

A new phone socket could well be the cause, especially if the ring wire is connected.

What is a ring wire?  Is there any way of sorting this?  I got another sky box in hence phone socket but sky's a totally different issue the amount of problems i have with them regarding callbacks........

pup

sky box could be affecting your connection as well.

Older style phones needed extra voltage generated to make them ring, this was generated at the master socket and carried through an extra wire on terminal 3 to any extension sockets. Not a problem in the days of phones being used to make calls, but for ADSL, that wire acts as an antenna, picking up external noise and pulling it into the circuit, degrading the connection. Sky boxes are also bad news, the modems tend to put out frequencies they shouldn't. I'm guessing you have multi-room and need to have them connected? The best advice I can give you is to double filter each box, ie put two filters in series on each box.

I generally keep sky connections out from phone socket hence alot of hassle with callbacks but when i put filters in to allow sky callback to work i dont get internet connection.  I do have multiroom.  I was reading about ring wire on another site & it suggests to remove orange wire no.3 behind socket, would you advise to do this?  They say it would help connection speed, but would this affect my sky also?

Rik

That's the wire, though it isn't always orange, what matters is that it's on terminal 3. It will not affect Sky, but clearly Sky is affecting your ADSL, so try the double-filtering trick. If the extension was put in by a Sky installer, they are not known for ADSL-friendly techniques. :(

I tried putting all 3 filters in with no success (internet connection).  All lights on router showed except the one "wireless g-router". Is it possible it could be some setting that might be wrong for example on my belkin router?  If i was to double up as you say Rik i would need to then buy another 3 filters. :eek4:

I had to take them out again to get back online just now.  This is what i always do when online.  I just had 3 filters in before as i say, 1 in bedroom, 1 in pc room & 1 in living room (master socket).

Rik

What's connected to each filter though?

Pc room filter has router & phone (should also have sky) the other two have just got sky connected to them.

Rik

Right, then ideally you need two more filters in line with the Sky boxes. There's no guarantee it will work, but it's been known to. Is the phone DECT? If so, keep the base unit at least 1m away from the router, and ideally keep the power brick away too.
