As people seem to post things like gw5 is fine without saying whether they are on adsl max or wbc, I thought I would make this poll & see if we could at least narrow it down a bit. This is the 1st time I've made a poll so if you feel there should be another option please say.

Simon

I voted GW5 / Max / Fine, because they have been, most of the time, through the recent 'troubles', and I have only rebooted my router once in the past week for high pings.

Could you add in something about speeds, too? I think they have been erratic over the last week, as well.

Thanks.

Glenn

I'm currently pinging IDNet  at 24ms and have been for several weeks, even during the tennis, I have a poor line that is only capable of around 2mb, but it downloads around 200kbs

I would rather keep this specific to ping times for now, & possibly make another seperate poll on speeds when this one has run its course, of course if thats where your main problem lies & enough other people ask for it its easy enough to do quickly.

dujas

I am on gw5 with adsl max & pings are fine, well mostly, there is the odd occasion like last night where pings were high and a router reboot didn't fully resolve the problem.

sobranie

Ping,  advise address to ping please.

kinmel

None of the offered options apply to me.

I am on DSL4, ADSLMax  and I am have no problems with pings ( nor anything else either )

The thing is rebooting the router Simon is not something I have ever had to do with IDnet right no I cannot be arsed to be honest I voted high pings but erratic would fit better, I just get fed up of mid afternoon having to deal with half speed, and a latency that sometimes makes me turn the pc off and give up, but that may change tomorrow, who knows. I think at the end of the day its best not get to worked up, after all anything with an off button is trying to tell you something  ;D
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Colin Burns

wheres the option for being on dsl4 and my pings are fine

zappaDPJ

There's no option that applies to me but for the record I am on gw6, WBC with consistently low pings (ave. 24 ms to local destinations).

Added the option to say on a different gw & pings are fine.

Mohux_Jnr

I would also like an option for the people without any ping issues to say whether they game or not, ping issues are not a problem until latency and response time becomes a factor.

General web surfing......... ping times are not a major problem for anyone.

Steve

I am on .net and its working fine do you want to put that as another gw?

I've amended the option to reflect this.

Of course, we really need two votes for people with multiple connections. I've voted on my WBC/GW5 connection, but for the record, my Max/GW5 connection is also fine for pings.

My pings are fine at night fine in the morning but pings and latency are miserable from 12pm onwards till at least 6pm, but in all checks my exchange is not congested. Its been like it since the gw6 incident and swap over. I am pretty fed up of loosing half my throughput at these times, but what can I do, I know feed my lawn and not worry ;D

Edit: It now seems my exchange is seeing some contention and is due for an upgrade in two to three weeks :fingers:

I don't believe BT are giving out honest information about exchange congestion any more, Gary. :(

This is what Brian has said so time will tell, I am not sure who to believe thats the thing, as this was not mentioned last week   :eyebrow:

Throughout the history of ADSL, we have seen 'red' exchanges, but now they all appear to be green. I find that hard to believe.

I used to suffer quite badly with latency and on checking my exchange it would usually show green,
then one day it would turn red and at the same time maintenance was scheduled a few days after,
hen it would go green again, always seemed to me that BT were not being honest about the state.

Jim

Rik

My thoughts entirely, Jim.

At this rate, we'll need to increase the number of poll options!  ;D
