I live very close to (I was told) the largest Sainsburys superaver and its a joy to shop in there I have never waited long and they always open another till ...they are first rate,I really cannot fault them

I wish mine did, David. It's the same now as ever. They seem to have a policy of making customers queue at the checkouts, only half of which are open. I have actually witnessed checkouts being closed while customers approach, forcing them to queue at another. They obviously just want to maximise profits by only using a bare minimum of staff.

Tesco at Sandhurst has 50 checkouts + about 8 self service checkouts, but there are always queues there, that's why I use Morrisons.
