Is this cheating

Over at DSLZone they ask you to type in your sync speed before running a speedtest. In my mind, this is not representative, since throughput is determined by your profile, so that's what I put in; but is this cheating? (Just made the top ten at 9pm with this approach).

Well, I think it depends what others are doing. At least DSL Zone have the sense to realise that it's necessary to compare sync (or, as you rightly point out, profile) with throughput to have some meaningful data. Perhaps email DSL Zone and suggest they change the wording. It would make more sense. :)

I agree, the profile is far more important than the sync. I suppose they are working on the principle that people can more readily establish their sync speed.
