It's a new-ish Google feature. I quite like it. :)

Rik

It saves me a lot of typing, in the main, unlike T9. :)

no just normal google. I think now could it be that I ccleaned yesterday and killed what ever remembers the settings for google

Simon

I think it just remembers the most popular searches people ask for - it's not specifically remembering your own searches.  Ebay does the same - if you type 'Nokia', for example, it will suggest different models.

yeah but I meant why does it keep defaulting back to making suggestions when I changed the settings to NOT suggest  :dunno:

Rik

Where did you change them, Baz? It could be you're clearing a cookie which remembers your settings.

Yes, if you save settings on Google, you have to allow the cookie to be saved, as you do to stay logged in to forums.  :)

I wonder if this isn't a google setting at all but the setting which remembers what you have previously enters in a text box field on a webpage?

Could be, I've noticed it happening on other pages too.

on the main page is a preferences link beside the search bar, then right at the bottom is Query Suggestions then the 'Do not provide.....' radio button.

Simon

As we said the Google cookie needs to be allowed to be stored, for it to save your Preferences, Baz.  :)

Baz

so would CCleaner have killed the cookie

Simon

If you've not told CCleaner to save it, yes.  :)
