Hi All, I'm hoping there may be some Cisco gurus on this board.

I just bought a couple of routers from fleabay. One was a brand new 2700, that is now connected and running my net connection ( a much better connection than my previous speedtouch BTW ). The other is a Cisco 837 which I bought just for playing/learning. The problem is that although this router appears to be working fine ( everything lights up etc ) my computer can't see it at all

I'm assuming it's because the previous owners setup is still active. I can't contact them as it is from a bankrupt stock sale. I've done a number of google searches to try and find out a method of resetting to the factory default but not found a solution, as they all say connect through a comm port or telnet.
OK, fine, I've tried all the methods suggested but without knowing the IP and/or port before hand how the hell do you do that ???:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Here's hoping someone has an idea

Cheers  :fingers:

If no-one here can help, Tony, give support a call, they are familiar with Cisco kit.

Thanks Rik  :thumb: but I'd feel real uncomfortable calling support about something that I was just doing as a past time with no real point to it. I'd feel like I was wasting their time

Glenn I may well have  ;D I've been on a number of places today but I'll go check it out Thanks  :thumb:

If they're not swamped, I'm sure they'd try to help. You could always email and let them respond when they had time...

If I remember I'll ask at work, I'm sure they used 837's a while ago.

I may well do that Rik if I don't get anywhere searching other avenues

Cheers Som, tell me how would I use that ? I can't get my computer to connect to the router at all so is there a method of reflashing/reloading a new setup ?

Once again thanks to all  :thumb:

Ok not sure what you do and don't know so first things first...

Do you know if the machine was wiped before you got hold of it? Do you have a console cable? Do you know you to connect with a console cable. i.e. the settings needed etc? Sorry to ask but need to know where your at.

Also are you planning on using it for nat or not, my config is based on it just providing comms etc, had a firewall doing nat behind it.

Not a problem Som, thanks for your time, and to answer your questions
I have no idea if it was wiped or not. I got it from a third party on fleabay who got it from a bankruptcy sale.

A console cable I already have on order from fleabay.

Yup I know how to connect it up and the connection settings I have from all my google searching  :)

Yup, I'll be doing nat with it.

Whilst not a rank beginner as far as networking goes I'm not far off. My main interest/expertise has always been programming and electronic hardware not networking

Ok then. For the moment we are going to have to wait for that console cable. Then your going to have to follow this guide to wipe it. Then we will get a config on it.

I presume you have plugged a cable into the fast ethernet ports on the router and set a box of yours to use dhcp to see if it gets an address?

I have, I've also tried it under Win 7, XP, Vista and Mandriva all to no avail. They all report nothing is there yet the network light is lit on the router.

Hopefully the cable will arrive shortly but knowing my luck it will be the end of next week  :sigh:
