Hi! All,

When firing up my 'other' desktop (direct connection) or laptops (wireless) I get the message " Limited or no connectivity" and cannot get on the net. However, if I simply unplug the power from the router and then immediately re plug it in, bingo! connection up and running :dunno:

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

So, one machine is OK, the rest are not, Q? If so, it sounds like the network connections are messed up on the affected machines. If that is the case. Try deleting them then using the wizard to create a new connection on each machine.

Thanks Rik, have to say that is what I suspected. Now you have mentioned it everything I have done does point to that as the problem. Damned annoying though ::)

Rik

I'm struggling with an equally intractable DNS problem, Q. Computers, huh. ;)

Two of the three Netgear routers I have here do the same thing. I can get the technology to talk again by reapplying the router settings e.g. change nothing but just hit the apply button  ???

Sorry, that was of no help whatsoever was it  ;D

I don't know, Zap, it's a sign that Q's not on his own - always welcome. :)

I have the same. The PC loses the IP address.

Various long-winded fixes include:

Rebooting the router
Rebooting the PC
Putting the wireless adapter in another USB slot

The third option is quickest and doesn't b....r up the DLM management which happens if you reboot the router too often

The issue doesn't happen with my hardwired PC, though.

Sounds to me like the PC's aren't receiving an IP address from the router. Once the router is rebooted it then issues IP addresses, have you tried it with static addresses, or increased the DHCP pool?

Glenn, thanks for your thoughts. I have no idea what you mean re 'static addresses or 'increasing the DHCP pool' Sorry but that is complete 'chinese' to me :dunno:

You can assign a specific address to each machine, Q, rather than have the router do it automatically. OTOH, if the problem is that the router doesn't have enough free addresses for some reason, then in many instances you can increase the range of addresses it will offer. I use a static address for my networked printer, for example, as that's the only way Windows will find it.

http://portforward.com/ will show you how to configure your router for static addresses.
