Hi,

I'm looking for a new laptop for a work project. The main requirement is for a laptop with a docking station. There are a number of requirements:

  • The dock must have a slot for a PCI (preferred) or PCIexpress card (deal-breaker)
  • We would like the dock to have a bay of the optical drive to live in if possible.
  • It would be fantastic if there was an adaptor to allow a second hard drive to be installed in the laptop (in the optical drive bay or otherwise)

So far I've found the Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad T500 and its Thinkpad Advanced Dock which meet the above requirements. Unfortunately my customer has an objection to me using Lenovo hardware and have asked me to keep looking. Dell just stopped making docks with slots...

Does anyone know of another currently-produced laptop with a dock that can take a PCI or PCIe card please?

Thanks,
Paul.

I haven't used any docking stations recently, only port replicators, but would something like this be of use? http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06c/A1-329290-329229-347699-347699-3676824-3821185.html
