Price of service for my connection compared to ADSL2

Hi,

I am on Home SuperMax the top £34 package on an up to 8mb line.  Unfortunately my exchange does not support ADSL2 yet.

I was just looking at the ADSL2 pricing and I see that the new top package is the same price, which is good.  But I noticed that the download allowance is a combined 120GB compared to the 60GB I have at the moment.

Considering I am paying the same money should I not be receiving similar download allowance?

No, Jon. BT charge IDNet a lot more for the bandwidth on Max compared to WBC. If they gave you the same allowance, they would go bust. The only way they could do it is to increase the prices across the board, and then they'd probably go bust anyway.

Ok I see.

What about being able to change the 30GB day rate to 40Gb and reduce the night allowance to 20GB?  As to be honest I really have a 30GB limit not 60GB as I hardly use the night time allowance.

Same thing, Jon, it's just not economically possible. To give you an example of what I mean, IDNet charge £1/GB for excess bandwidth, which is pretty much what it costs them. From memory, Newnet charge £1.37, Zen £1.49 and AAISP a whopping £4.98 peak (49p off-peak). The latter figure in particular indicates why changing the peak allowance is too expensive for IDNet.
