Yep, it's being released Friday. I've ordered online because I don't think I'll get to the Apple Store after work on Friday. Plus, word is that Apple have delivered on the release day in the past, rather than dispatching on release day. I can't wait, and £25 is a bit of a bargain.

Amazon is now quoting a release date of 4th September, how odd that they should be different. Mind you looking at Apple's 3 working day delivery and Monday being a Bank Holiday probably won't be much different unless they post before the 28th.

Perhaps Amazon have made a guess at the date prior to the official Apple release as Friday is the usual release date for an Apple OS . Seems a good idea release a new OS and then run away and hide for the weekend.

Not long, those fans who create the Kexts consider it a matter of honour to have them published before the official OS release date.

At least we use legal copies of the OS, even if Apple aren't too happy.

I'd have thought using different kexts could be construed as unauthorised modification of a copyrighted work.  Until it's tested in a Court of Law, I doubt anyone could say with any certainty whether Hackintoshes are legal or not....

If the practice is too widespread I can see Apple going down the MS/Adobe route of product authorisation, in which case we all lose.  At present they only go after those who try to make money from it.

But of course the kexts don't modify the O.S.; during loading the O.S. itself seeks out and invokes the kexts, which it then uses to operate hardware.  The homebrew kexts are only created where a hardware manufacturer has not yet supplied suitable drivers, the same way as also happens with Linux drivers.

Of course product activation and media protection systems only inconvenience the innocent and prove no barrier at all to those who use pirated software

Hopefully the upgrade disk will allow a clean install but as yet no installation instructions available from Apple.I would be pleasantly surprised if an upgrade over an existing Leopard install got rid off all remnants of the previous OS.

This article will amuse many but will Apple admit or deny their beloved OS is vulnerable to such attacks. It could I suppose be a hoax.
