On the Apple community forum some UK users have received their copy today and not so in others. Anyway I am not jealous as I've not done my additional clone backups yet

I haven't received my order copy. Just contemplating whether to risk doing a clean install and relying on my being able to restore the Time Machine backup, or whether I should do a CCC.

I think I'd use superduper or disk utility first to clone the drive and then you have at least 2 restore methods in the rare event it all goes tits up.

How do you clone the drive with Disk Utility?

Using a scapel, cut below a joint then plant and water, keep it in a warm place for a few day, then hopefully you will have a new cloned drive

I have used Superduper in the past and it worked fine, not bothered recently as I have been using Time Machine exclusively

It looks like SL kernel defaults to 32 bit unless the 64 bit is requested at boot up the native 64 bit applications run on top.

Correct, unless you're running a Mac Pro or Xserve. I've been reading on it and it's said that there's no benefit for the average user, although you can opt to use the 64-bit kernel on most should you wish.

Thats as I understand it, looks largely an academic exercise for the home user . I use XP occassionally on the mac and the virtual device software all I think need a 32 bit kernel. I was hoping you might have told us how the install went, always best to learn from someone else's pitfalls

Fortunately mine didn't appear today so not expecting now until Tues/Wed next week. I can only buy the single license locally which is waste of pennies with 2 machines to upgrade.
