Exactly, Steve. I also use MobileMe, so a clean install was so simple. I just can't help but feel that, however much better Mac OS is at performing at update, things will still get left behind.

Steve

Sebby. Did you use the migration assistant at all once you finished your erase and install of SL.

Just checked the shipment status and its being sent from the Netherlands with an expected delivery date of the 3rd of September.

Mine said it was coming from the Netherlands also be it was actually sent second class from Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Steve

Thanks ,Hopefully it will be delivered before the strike on Wednesday night but I suppose the next normal delivery for me will be Wednesday AM as we tend to get hardly any mail on a Monday, in fact I am not sure why they bother delivering on a Monday if our mail volumes are typical.

There are no Royal mail deliveries except in Scotland on the 31st August even there certain areas are affected by industrial action. Not sure why they call it action, inaction would be more appropiate.

Yes I did. A word of warning, when you setup a new user for the first time, just call it something like 'temp' as when you use Migration Assistant, it restores your old profile, and won't restore it if you have an existing one with the same name. Once migrated, you can delete the temporary account.

Also, I migrated only user files, not applications or settings.

Here's a screenshot demonstrating the ability to navigate within stacks - surprisingly handy!

They could have taken a more friendly picture, it looks like the cat is eyeing you up for dinner.

The bit that's open in the bottom right. You can put a stack on the dock for any folder - applications, documents, music, etc. It opens up that folder as a sort of floating window off of the dock. On Leopard, if you clicked a folder within the stack, a new window would open up in Finder. Now that folder opens within the stack, allowing much better navigation.

Thanks, Seb. So you're sitting on the dock of the stack, then? ;)

Yup. Of course much easier than Windows though. ;)

Before I did the clean install, I did a

ls /Applications/ >> apps.txt

from Terminal so I had a list of what was installed. :)

Hi Everyone

Well have come back from a visit to see our grandson and have got my copy of Snow Leopard.

Couldn't wait to install it, had already done some reading over w/end and had decided to do an upgrade.

All went well 45 mins start to finish only had one program to remove before starting Onyx 2.05 not compatable, waiting for an new version.

Now working my way round to try and find the changes, very impressed so far runs very quick and shuts down even quicker, easyist upgrade I have ever done a world away from MS, and a lot easier than Tiger to Leopard.

Regards

RogerP

Rik

Thanks, Roger. I can see this forum becoming converted to Macs and Donald Russell meat yet. ;D

;D

The Mac itself is bad enough, Den, but replacing all the software and fonts is where the pain really comes.
