Hi guys/gals

Trying to install the above printer it keeps throwing a windows error of "Cannot install hardware" "The specified environment is invalid".

Does this even after wiping all traces of HP off the computer. The cable works fine with a different printer also.

Basically you run the HP installer (both off the disk or latest driver off the net) and it gets to the part where it detects the printer/tells you to turn it on and windows detects it - then throws that error!

argh

does the same when you manually search for the driver file too - this is on xp x32.

i'm at a loss and probably gonna try a format/reinstall

Amazingly, Google throws up nothing apart from your post! I'm not sure what to suggest. Is it worth calling HP?

Simon

Would it be worth running something like CCleaner?

Call HP, Sam. I has something similar with a 2410, and it needed a removal tool before I could get it to install properly.

I found a post saying how to remove all HP stuff from your pc - using some uninstall/removal batch files found on the installation CD - i take it this is what you meant by removal tool? But i think i do remember a removal tool (tried it last time i tried to fix it)

Dont think any of those questions really help
I dont think XP generic printer drivers supported this printer either  :rant2: Not impressed by hp so far

Rik

There's a batch file (or a series of command line entries), Sam, but they also had a full removal tool that cleaned out the registry too.

I think i tried that too

i may try installing it on my own laptop to see if its their OS or in actual fact the printer

Rik

Set a restore point, or preferably do an Acronis backup, first, Sam. HP installations can leave a lot of detritus behind. :( (Check the website for a minimal installation package, drivers only.)

Try installing it in safe mode?
