out of interest if you have or need to cut the power in your home what should you do with router as to turning it off etc.

had to turn off mains today and never thought at the time and just turned it off at mains. everything is back and running now with just a minor glitch getting a laptop back on line wirelessly. Was going great too with an uptime on the router approaching 2 months  :)

Rik

I would unplug the router first, David, simply to avoid any surge as you bring the power back on to the whole house, but otherwise there's little difference between what you did and a normal power down.

As Rik said. ;D  The important thing is not to turn it off and on repeatedly over a short period of time, So at least if you turn it off separately/unplug it you can then turn it back on when your certain you've completed the job you were doing.

thanks Simon  ;) ;) ;)

do you mean take the plug out of socket or will taking out the lead in back of router do.

Rik

Sorry, Baz, that's twice now.  What is it about your two names that's setting me off? ;D

Plug out of socket is the best way - as the voltage decays, it sends a last gasp signal to the exchange to say it's shutting down.
