See if they are turned off, disconnected etc, or if Windows has turned them off in the control panel, remove the update that was installed yesterday.

Fire foxe crashed earlier on..this could have nothig to do with things can it ,having a good day .and things are slowing  :eek4:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2769 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :5824 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 832 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps

Just in case I scanned the PC and nothing !

Thought I would share this snippet with

The handbook for BT IPStream now defines that they consider it acceptable for a line that syncs at the full ADSL1 rate of 8,128Kb/s to only get 600Kb/s download. This means a serious congestion fault within their network, which they admit is a hot VP will not be fixed.

Bet that cheered you up

Sounds like my problem, David, I have a profile of 3.5M and a throughout of 1.7M. :( Makes you think that going LLU is the only way forward, doesn't it. :(

Check in the Control Panel, see if the speakers are set to mute or the volume is turned right down.

I think we need a bit more info here... the speakers that don't work- are they powered from a sound card? And do the headphones work when plugged into the same sound card?

Do the same speakers (and headphones) work when plugged in to the front of the PC and effectively powered from the mobo?

You see what I'm getting at I hope- trying to isolate which bit has gone belly up... my first thought from what you've described so far is a faulty jack plug on a sound card, and the timing is coincidental. But I could easily be wrong!

My isp is just finishing the trials with BE with luck it will be in about a month. I could go straight to BE that is an option but I am awaiting prices etc .

LLU seems the only way and I am looking foward to it .....I think  ;)

Hi,

Have you checked the sound configuration to make sure it's still set appropriately for your speaker setup? I once had a machine with a multi-output sound card where someone had changed the sound mode to 5.1 surround. Since most of the sound was in the centre it was coming out of the centre channel socket and not the stereo so nothing could be heard on stereo speakers. One of my sound cards has an output that is configurable and it can be changed from analogue to digital and can be switched to represent different channels from the card. If that gets switched wrongly then I see similar symptoms to yours.

Do you have an iPod or similar you can plug your speakers into to make sure they haven't died due to something not related to the update?

Good luck,
Paul.

David

Hi Paul and thanks for that, yes first thing I checked was the configuration and it was/is still on the settings ie 2 speaker.I dont use the mp 3 player with this machine but did check out the speakers and they were fine checked out everything and it all points to the jack plug at the back but as it  OK now .

It did happen I think it was about a year ago and I think I ended up downloading the player again...but ita done now so  :thumb:
