I have been with IdNet for over 2 years. The one constant has been the speed of my connection; however, over the past few months, downstream speeds have become very variable. This morning I got a downstream speed of 6487 Kbps. This afternoon my downstream speed is down to 2520 Kbps. My profile remains at a constant 8128 Kbps. These speeds are taken from Thinkbroadband as I cannot get BT Speedtester to work. I fear that exchange congestion is to blame. Thoughts/comments - thanks.

Two possibilities, exchange congestion (we've seen a lot of VP congestion lately), or you're on a congested central at IDNet. What are your ping times like, do they vary?

High technical merit....  Hope that this makes sense.

They're not bad. It would be worth having a word with support and see if they can spot anything odd going on with your line.

Thanks - will do.

Rik,

Spoke to Simon at IDnet who suggested a router re-boot. Downstream speed has now risen to 5309 Kbps! Thanks again.
