Well it was going to be Newnet, but I rang their TS up at 15:30 to see what their response times were like and had to wait 13 minutes for the phone to be answered.

This triggered me into calling IDNet before making a final decision and I have to say I was impressed both with the speed and quality of response I got from the two people I spoke to on the phone.

I made two calls on the freephone number and the first was answered within seconds; the second took somewhat longer - perhaps 30 seconds.

I'm still undecided (particularly because IDNet don't do Direct Debit atm) and I would welcome any comments from ex-Zen or ex-Newnet customers about what you advantages Newnet has over Zen or Newnet.

Thanks for your help.

Well I've not been with Zen or Newnet, but all I can say is that I've been here since July and not had one hiccup of any kind.

As you have found, any queries are dealt with promptly.  Payments are taken monthly from my credit card and there has never been any hitch in that process.

One indication of how trouble free the service is is the lack of much 'problem' posting on these forums.

Hi Jaydub

Welcome to our side of the pond. :)

You can use a standing order instead of Direct Debit, I gather these are high up on the 'to do' list after the new central comes online. It's also feasible to use EFT if you do online banking.

Thanks, Rik.

If I migrate in, I will come in on the Lite package and be paying extra every month.  Whoever I spoke to earlier this evening suggested it would be OK to set up a standing order for our expected monthly usage, which seemed like a reasonable compromise to me.  The suggestion was that DD should be in by the end of Spring (whatever that means), however I seem to remember a similar commitment to the end of 2006  ;)

It does seem to have slipped a bit, doesn't it. ;)

Somewhere, sometime, I think  I read that it costs about £40,000 to set up Direct Debits.  :-\
Whether that is in the form of an indemnity to that value, or hard cash up front, I don't know.  Either way, it would explain the 'leave-it-for-now' treatment!!
Any talk of that sort of cash causes me to have a memory relapse too!!  ::)

I don't know, Mo. If it's coming to me I think I would have a very focussed memory. :)

You're right, though, the DD guarantee must require some sort of bonding I would think.

Today is decision day according to Jaydubs post at TB.

Will he join IDNet or Newnet, we shall have to wait and see.

I hope he comes here to enjoy the same wonderful customer services we have and the solid connections we all have (subject to BT of course!).  :)

I would agree Lance, I have always given an honest opinion, good or bad, of every ISP that I have used on Forums.

I can truthfully say I don't have a bad word to say about IDNet, and that is a first amongst ISP's.

You see ........ it's so unlikely that that sort of money could be coming my way, I didn't even think of it!  :D

I don't think my address is anywhere on here, so I can say I am actually expecting a reasonably large cheque at the moment. :) How else do you think I persuaded Sue to let me have yet another computer??

It's not one of those cheques from Nigeria is it Rik?

Rik

I hope not, I expect it to be from Celtic regions, with a touch of Viking for good measure.

Quick, hand me the thumbscrews. :)

So that's how you lot treat new customers is it.

I'm not sure my pain threshold will let me sign up.  :o

We issue aspirins at the door, JayDub. After a while, you'll barely notice us. :)

I think everything you need to hear has been said.  Still I think its worth saying you can't put a price on IDnets customer support, truely the best I have dealt with and in the fragile world of networking I think good customer support is as important as anything.
