WBC seems to be working for me, I've gone from a 3M profile on Max to 4.5M on WBC:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 4164 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :5248 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 760 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps

Roll on fibre. :)

That's a good improvement,  Rik.  :) :thumb:

I think so, Ray. The early days were a bit troublesome, but it generally seems to have worked out quite well for me in the end. I am on a target NM of 3db, which doesn't seem to be widely available as yet. My theory is that BT are testing it on poorer lines so that customers see an improved speed wherever possible.

You may be up in your ivory tower Rik, but us poor serfs on max can still have the last laugh

but i agree that your line seems to be improving slowly, just cant wait until BT get around to installing the 21CN gear in my exchange

Rik

It didn't last.  :'( The router re-synced at 2, and dropped me back to a 4M profile, but that's still a 33% gain.

Are you typing 33% faster though?

Signs are looking good for you Rik, hope things continue that way :fingers:

Rik

Well, I'm back to a 4M profile, Q, but I'm happy enough with that. :)

It looks like you've pinched all the bandwidth.....

And no, I haven't called support, because a) they're not open, and b) I have no faith that they'll do anything anyway.

I intend sticking with IDNet long enough for the much promised and hyped new link - or whatever it is - to come on stream to see whether it really does make any difference, although I'm unimpressed that while IDNet wait for it to arrive they appear to have reduced or under-invested in capacity to cope with current demand.

And then to cap it all, a family member, also with IDNet for internet and phone, received a personally addressed spam marketing email from IDNet yesterday offering her an upgrade to ADSL2+ for a fee of £12.65, and inviting her to switch her phone service to IDNet. She's already with IDNet for phone for goodness sake. Get a grip, IDNet.

Rik

Well, I haven't nicked your bandwidth as WBC is completely separate from Max in that respect. :)

As I've said often before, BT have failed IDNet - and other ISPs - with late delivery of both WBC and IPStream Connect. This has lead to higher levels of central usage than IDNet planned for, but the difficulty comes in trying to rectify that shortfall short-term. A new central costs a lot of money to install, and has a three-month lead time plus a 1-year minimum contract. To have put another one in this year (there was one installed in February) would have been financially risky, as, in my opinion, costs would have had to rise to pay for it.

It is my understanding that, overall, the network is working with spare capacity, but that there are occasional hotspots, some of which are down to BT's equipment, ie DSLAMs, VPs etc.

As to the email, I agree, I received one too, my phone is already with them.

Sarah

Just to mention that following my posts about low and variable speeds in July/August, there seems to be a consistent improvement in the speeds on this ADSL2+  line, since around 15th September.

I have been doing Thinkbroadband speed tests, not the BT one, but going by the tbb graph there's a clear change.  The range in general is now upwards of 6Mbps, with none below 3.5Mbps for these few weeks.  The trend line is heading towards 8Mbps, from where it had been settled at around 3.5.

Here is a BT speed test done just now:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 11774 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1000-99999 Kbps.
Your DSL Connection Rate :15320 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 832 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 13000 Kbps

I know the WBC capacity is distinct from the IPStream capacity at the exchange, but I noticed that the Plusnet exchange checker for IPStream (which also revived) now indicates green for this exchange (since the end of August) after months of red.

Whatever the reason I hope it persists like this.

Sebby

Looking good, Rik. Your broadband's not doing so bad either.

Same here, Sarah, BT seem to have pulled several digits out last month and things have got steadily better since. I don't think that it's any coincidence that BT Retail launched their own WBC service at the end of September. ;)

Log in to your customer account page at IDNet, Bob. There will be a yellow banner there if you have WBC.
