Last week for some reason, my router lost all of its settings and everyting had to be re- inputted. I got it up and running successfully however and have been playing around with it this week. Today  it seems that the firmware has updated to 6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm :eek4:, I forgot to edit the update sever variable :red:. After the reboot, the red light came on for internet access. I have reset to factory settings in the hope it would downgrade as at the time I had no internet access. I now have no password to enter into system to activate any of the protected areas. I also confirm that the javascript method of saving the username, etc doesn't work. Is this just a piece of scrap now or can I somehow get it to work? If so, Noddy guide please. I have looked at Tripod and it seems I am Donald Ducked really. Can't even access it by ethernet cable.

Thanks

Mark

P.S. Been having a lot of hassle accessing the idnetters.co.uk domain recently, loads of page cannot be displayed arrors, although a traceroute completes.

The V6 default password is the serial number of the hub and can be found on the label.

Does the router show any green lights at all?

Before I restored the factory settings, all the normal green lights came on (ethernet, wireless, dsl), just the internet light showed red which I assumed was a dodgy password/ username after a couple of reboots. After restoration, the original owners password and username were shown. I cannot change this at all in any way shape or form. Everything I try comes back as an invalid ppp username, although all green lights do come on (except the internet light which again is red).

Sounds like a bit of a brick to me. :(

v annoyed  Previously the entry had been made to prevent the upgrade, but it is something I overlooked when trying to bring it back to working mode last week.

How can they get away with crippling a router? Isn't it anti competitive? Imagine buying a car filled with BP fuel and being told that was all you could ever use in it. If you put Shell i, the engine stops. Isn't this the same sort of thing really?

Mark

Rik

It is, Mark, but officially you can't buy those routers, so there's no consumer rights behind you.

Yes, but by locking it down you are preventing a customer from leaving a service and if they do so, you are imposing a financial penalty. Surely that must be against the rules?

Mark

Rik

Not really. If you'd been a BT customer and obtained it 'legally', they'd argue it was subsidised. Sky also lock down their routers, but by less devious means. If you've got a 2700 but bought it from a third party, BT have no obligation to you whatsoever, and they probably have a clause in their T&Cs which prohibits people selling them on.

I would also think that their conditions ban it's use on a non BT line

Panic over it's working  ;D

I finally managed to dredge through a lot of the pages and got my solution here http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/063.htm. All connected and chugging away nicely. Time to play with bits as I am about 1/2 meg down on speed, but it is a start  :fingers:

If you have green lights for Power and Broadband the router is working just fine,  go to PPP Authentication Page, fill in the information and press Submit.

You should then get a Resolution Succesful message within 1 minute, if not re-boot the router by unplugging the power cord.

ps You solved it whilst I was typing - well done  :thumb:

Thanks to everyone and especially those that have taken the time to experiment for the Tripod page.  :)

Mark,

Don't forget to disable Openzone now it's upgraded to 6.1.1.48.1. You don't want to be allowing BT to use your bandwidth for their Openzone customers!!!

MisterW ( alias IanW on tripod )

Marksfish

Done that thanks. Checked it when first up and running and everything was disabled. Checked it on the wireless laptop downstairs, Openzone and Fusion was enabled! I have since disabled them all again.

Did I mention this was a C&W LLU connection also? Even better news  :)

Got one of those in the office, 2700 running 5.29.117.6, synchs at 21800 rock solid ( ducks to avoid all the rotten eggs thrown by jealous forum members! ), but there again we are within spitting distance of the exchange.
Still at least with the C&W LLU there is none of this MSAN DLM rubbish, only the problem of having to deal with Demon support if anything goes wrong...

Marksfish

Current speed of 2582 on my VERY unstable line. Lots of variation at night from 21db to -1.3db giving me regular disconnections (18 last night alone). Even though LLU, BT have got a lot to answer for  As said though, at least i'm not penalised by the DSLAM and when it does reconnect, I get almost full line speed.
