When I was at school, a forward slash was called the "shilling mark".

When I left school, my print-related trade called it the "solidus".

When I took a typing course it was called the "oblique".

When I started learning about HTML it was called the "forward slash".

It's opposite number is the "backslash" - why isn't the forward slash now called the "frontslash"?
