Hi

I'm a new ID Net(ter), just moved over from Plusnet after 3 years. Hi everyone  :D

Been on ID Net for a couple of days now with no problems however today I am down. This is the first day in three years that I've not had a proper internet connection (Plusnet may have their err 'issues', but at least I never lost service for any length of time), and I'm a bit of an addict - hence this post... it's making me feel better. Yes, perhaps I should get out more  :-\ ;)

However, I am now on the dial up line (9600kbps... now I remember why back in the day, graphics weren't that prolific on websites!!!)

My connection has been down all day, tried this morning at 07:00 with no joy. Got in from work at 16:30 tried again, still no joy. Tried numerous router reboots, switch off for 30 mins etc. ADSL router is connected, just not getting an IP address from ID Net. I know that there was some sort of maintenance today, doesn't appear that my problem is related tho.

Spoke to Support, very nice and polite, suggesting that the problem could be BT, perhaps a stale session. Can't do anything else today, call back tomorrow.

So never having migrated from an ISP before, I am wondering if this is par for the course or am I just unlucky? Is it really likely to be a BT issue, I mean what can be wrong at their end if I have migrated ISPs, sucessfully connected and used for a couple of days and then found that I am no longer "connecting" to the new one (although my router does state that I have a 1376kbps connection, so can't be a line problem)?

Anyhow if you read this far, thanks for reading. :)

Any comments would be appreciated, I've heard you guys are a friendly bunch  :P

You've been unlucky. A new central came online around 2pm today, and although BT had assured IDNet it would not cause any downtime, it has. You've done all the things I could recommend, so I can only suggest you call support again in the morning. BT did mess up my migration and I had about 14 hours downtime. They are also doing maintenance on DSLAMs at the moment, and this might just have affected you.

Hi Serenity.  This is not par for the course here at IDnet.  Something happened that was beyond their control.  I have been with IDNet for over a year now and in all that time there has never been any problem that cannot be sortes out by IDnet support.  You seem to have been unlucky but I'm sure everything will be sorted out very quickly.  Keep the faith.  I came over from Plusthing as well, very glad I did.

Thanks for the responses guys  :)

It does sound like I've had a bit of bad luck here, but I'm sure it'll get resolved quickly :fingers crossed: Not working tomorrow, so will be able to get it sorted pronto... hopefully! New ADSL router should be delivered tomorrow too, so I'll be able to consign my somewhat flaky Solwise to the "box of IT bits" that lives in the loft (don't worry, the Solwise isn't the problem here, just the LAN port misbehaves until it has warmed up)

I have to say that P2P is sooo much faster here than my previous ISP (PN did appear to be actively discouraging P2P tho). I'm not a big P2P user, but I just hope that my connection is back up tomorrow or there'll be half a dozen disappointed LOST addicts at work on Friday  ;)

Right, eBay will have to wait, 9600bps is just not cutting it!!!
>>>Back to the Wii for me>>>  ;D

I hope things are sorted for you today.

Me too!!!

Seems like it was a common problem. Still not sure why my lack of IP address was happening at 7 yesterday morning before the outage happened tho.. ???

I'm posting updates in the "Connection Problems" thread now.

Rik

The 7am outage could well be BT's DSLAM upgrade programme at work...
