Frequent loss of sync

Hello,

Not been with IDNet too long, but long enough for the training period to be over.  I have had no problems with switching over from Orange, but my connection seems to be experiencing a lot of stability issues.  I experience loss of sync quite frequently sometimes several times a day with my sync speed not changing much.  I have had downloads disturbed several times due to this.  I have also had issues with high pings from the connection which only resolve if I reconnect to the internet.

There is nothing wrong with my filter and line stats are exactly the same in the test socket.  I cant report exactly how frequent the loss of sync is because my router doesn't log it.

Noise Margin

14 dB

22 dB

Attenuation

52 dB

This is also without any house phone or other equipment connected to the line at all.  The house phone is very rarely used so its unplugged.

It sounds like your line is suffering from bursts of noise. The high SNRM indicates instability. What sort of rate are you connecting at?

qweezy

3392/448

Sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower.

Loss of sync twice since my last post.

I wonder if your best bet is to use routerstats for a few days to log noise margin and sync. The graphs might then show any trends or particular times of day when sync goes.

My first thought would be faulty filter, followed by trying a different router :)

I had this for many many months ended up with Bt sfi getting involved.

don't have any trains in between you and the exchange do you?  use samknows to fing out.

samknows exchange search

And i eventually found that the 2 best routers for noise on a line are the cisco 8XX series or even better a 2700. you seem to have the same line atten etc as me.

I was incidentally getting between 5-150 dissconnects a day depending on weather and the router i was using.

Be interesting to plug in your house phone and to check whether you get any audible noise on the line at about the same time as the re-synchs?

I have an ongoing problem with intermittent noise on the line, usually only in the early morning and the early evenings. All since BT supposedly "fixed" a fault on my line in August. This also causes me re-synchs. BT are only interested in coming out if I agree to pay them £125 if they dont find a fault, which they wont, because at the times of day they want to come there is no line noise.

It seems the more that I have researched this, the more and more common this type of fault seems to be getting and BT aren't interested.

Good luck, I hope you can get yours resolved. As yet, I can't.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies.

I have looked into Router Stats before, but it isn't compatible with my Router.  I have a Belkin F5D7632.  Never could seem to get Router Stats to work so I presume it isn't supported.

I checked my exchange and there is a train line in between.  Never thought about that being an issue before, but a track runs along past the exchange by a main road.

I have always thought my attenuation is high considering how close I am to the exchange!  Distance is 2.6m taking the main road as a route.  The main road spend some time going in almost the opposite direction so crow flies should be much less!

There is no noise on my phone, however I have had issues before.  At one point our line was crossed with someone else's.  We could hear other conversations on the line!  This was a long time ago and BT apparently fixed the problem.  Its very hard to check though as the line that it was crossed with had to be in use.

No matter, phone BT and report that you can, from time to time, hear other people's conversations. Their standard cure is to swap the exchange pair, and that might resolve a few things (I have to add, it might also increase your attenuation if you're very unlucky...)

If the lines go over a bridge from exchange to house and it is an electrified line then i bet thats your problem, listen for train and watch snr drop/line drop.

belkin was not a good router on my line.
