Just recently got my son a 360 can anyone tell me if the steering wheels are any good...for games like "Need For Speed" and the like .

Thanks

The more medium-expensive+ ones are nice, but the cheaper ones tend to not have the turning resistance you expect and are way too light. I'm told the official ones are nice but I haven't tried it myself and they will come with the microsoft overinflated price unless you find some sort of deal.

They are alright and anyone who plays driving games more than anything else should probably try and get one, but they are a reeeasonably hefty investment otherwise.

If you don't have a suitable sitting position with a table at the right height to affix the wheel to then forget it, you can't use them from your lap it will just get frustrating. Living room gaming and wheels doesn't work for me, I used to be a bit more into it and dedicated some space to it.

Thanks Supernova he has a large gaming chair with the speakers in the side, and a 32" tv and its all in his room so there is room for some form of table to for him.
The wheel and peddles I have in mind are both Xbox branded so from what you say it may enhance his playing of these games  :thnks:

Now if he had a PS2 or PS3, the choice of wheels would be bigger

I use a modified Driving Force Pro on my racing frame, it's been good to me over the 4 or 5 years I've had it.

For an 11  year old he is good....his set up is fair...the TV was too good to chuck away so he got it when I upgraded he keeps asking for Xbox live but
I dont understand what it is but I think it means going online which I wont allow at the moments ;D

Myst

Denying xbox live is cutting off his right hand  :) as there is a lot of free demo's etc that he could get, plus multiplayer games - try before he (you) buy.

Also you can set the content so he would not be able to get anything other than family content.

Will have to change my provider if he is allowed on games.....and I wont rule it out at all

I use playstation live which is free, playing games against other people and interacting in a gaming environment is fun, with your plan surely the massive download in the evening would suit? Most eleven year olds are more computer savvy than adults as well, and in the gaming world its just about games, you might enjoy it as well David  ;) I have been playing a game called uncharted 2 amongst thieves, the graphics are amazing and hanging onto trains at high speed while sneaking up on enemies while dodging helicopter gunships and solving clues and the difficult routes you have to take is fantastic, bought it Sunday and 20 hours in and still going strong, in fact I hear it calling  ;D
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

David

Thanks Gary enjoy your game....I have a little go but get bore..I do play Beehive on Sky if that counts....... ;D
