I've just ordered myself one these Canon Pixma MP640 multifunction inkjet printers, which seem to get good reviews, does anyone use this particular model?

No, Ray. I have the HP Photosmart Premum C309g, and can highly recommend that, but my experience of Canon has always been good.

I have a 610 It's a great printer, the results are fantastic, so I would think that the 640 will get the same or better results

I have the Canon MP620, it gives good results on the various papers I have tried it with plus I found the wireless easy to set up (its currently set up to work with a laptop running XP, a PC running XP, and another PC running Vista and all of them work fine). I do find the cannon ink cartridges a little on the expensive side but you can get non Canon branded cartridges for it at half the price of Canon ones.

I'm impressed with this company, http://www.oyyy.co.uk I ordered my new Canon printer from them at 2:45 this afternoon on free delivery, and I've received an email at 6:30pm advising me it's been despatched.  :)  :thumb:

I've got Canon 620 too and I am pleased with the results although I've not tried printing photos with it as I think it probably works out cheaper to have them printed at a processing centre. It is a little slow when starting up but that's not an issue for me. Amazon are currently selling it for £170 but at the time I only paid £110 and I got £30 back from Canon too.
