i have a netgear dg834g router. in the firewall rules i have setup a rule to block all inbound and outbound traffic for a certain ip address.

but it doesn't work. is there a way to do this?

Here's the basic instructions http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8219

Wouldn't just be easy to disable the network port?

Followed the same way they say in the link.

I setup a rule for port 80, 81, 21. Outbound and Inbound. I set the IP of my laptop and set it to "block always"

Opened the browser on my laptop and could browse any website and connect to my FTP server.

Its like the router is ignoring the "block always" setting.

Not really, i'm setting up rules for the laptop downstairs, i will only enable these rules when it affects my ping (while the ping issue is still ongoing).

I can play xbox with a 80ms ping but as soon as someone goes on websites and starts loading flash stuff up, my ping goes mental.

just a shot in the dark here, in the Set Up > Wireless Settings > Set up Access List do you have the laptop in the Trusted Wireless Stations list with the Turn Access Control On box ticked. may it be over riding the firewall rule  :dunno:
