Netgear DGN2000 v1 (Broadcom), Anybody know what this router is like?

I've never used the DGN2000, but Broadcom chipsets are generally seen as one of the best for high attenuation lines and BT's WBC ADSL2+. When Netgear's have problems it tends to be either from immature firmware, overheating or temperamental wireless connections.

The DGN3300 router was due to be released sometime in November, but I notice Broadbandbuyer has pulled the listing, so perhaps its been postponed.

It gets a mixed bag of customer reviews on Amazon, lot of complaints regarding wifi. I think if you need N look out for a secondhand DG834N or consider Speedtouch 585v6-7

Netgear forums show lots of problems, I would avoid it myself.

From what i've read the DGN2000 is a DG834N.

My DGN2000 just came now, If its cr*p it'll just go straight on ebay, Plus i only paid £45 for it. Costs around £70 on most sites.

Just hope the Broadcom chipset likes my cr*p line.

It's probably better with the DGTeam firmware.

I get the impression Netgear "fixed" the DHCP and UPNP issues with the latest firmwares for the DG834N so if the DGN2000 is similar, the DGTeam firmware is derived from an earlier version which although giving the extra functionality and flexibility won't fix the issues already mentioned.

I just got a DGN2000 as my last router died on me (D-Link DSL-G624T). I updated the firmware and set it up with no problems so far. My PC, laptop, Wii and wireless printer are all working fine with it. Only had it a couple of hours but so far rock solid and stable

Mines setup and running now. Had a little problem with wireless not connecting, so i changed the channel from 1 to 6 and wireless started to work

On the connection side of things. The router has increased my sync with the same margin.

Connection Speed    6592 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation    38.0 db    24.5 db
Noise Margin    11.8 db    26.0 db

With my old router i couldn't get a sync over 5300 lately.

New router has slightly increased my ping from 13-14ms to 15-16ms. Nothing to worry about if it gives me a more stable connection.

have to say that i'm impressed with the router so far.

this time of night/morning my old dg834g would have a noise margin around 4 to 6 but this new one is stable at 12. lowest its dropped so far is 11.

if it carrys on this way i might ask support to get BT to drop my default noise margin down to 9 from 12.

next test is to use the phone and see if the noise drops to 0 like it did on the old one.

Well it seems to be ok when the phone is being used. Noise margin only drops 0.5 and then regains when the phone is put down.

Looks like my DG834G was faulty for a while.
