I send idnet email via smtp.idnet.com using an SSL authenticated connection (because I am on o2 broadband!). This has not worked since yesterday. I can log into webmail using both secure and non-secure connection, so I don't know what is going on.

Rik

What port are you using. Welcome to the forum. :welc:: :karma:

Hi Rik,

port 587, but I just tried 465 with the same result. Port 587 has been working for quite a while.

I am receiving error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server when I try to send emails.  This has been for the past day.

Is it to do with SMTP authentication or SMTP ports? I originally made these changes tosettings so that I could send emails from my laptop when I am travelling but made these changes before I started receiving this error and have been successfully sending emails for a few months.

In Outlook 2007:

"My outgoing server requires SMTP authentication" is ticked My usual IDNet email username and password are entered "Requires Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is ticked Outgoing server (SMTP) is set to 587 "Use the following type of encrypted connection" is set to TLS

I would be grateful if anyone knows a solution as I am travelling next week and was hoping to be ale to send emails from other locations (connected to other ISPs).

I've merged the two posts into a single thread. ;)

Thanks for merging and investigating Rik... I really should have found the other thread!

Rik

No problem, it was part of a long thread following yesterday's server changes. As that was POP/IMAP, it's better to separate this one out.

Just to add my two pennath, it might not be the same problem, but I am not receiving mail sent to my Mail.com account, from any IDNet.com email accounts, and this has been since yesterday.  No error messages, the email just 'disappears'.  :dunno:

Imazz and Srbuk. It looks like auth-smtp wasn't currectly configured or tested on Friday. Can you email support with your details, or if you can't send at all, PM them to me and I'll pass it on.

Rik, I contacted support via web form and again this morning via email using another account, but haven't had any response  :(

Rik

You won't till Monday, I'm afraid, but I've tested it myself and proved it broken - the new server can't have been configured correctly.

Aargh... I am going away Monday morning so was hoping it would be fixed before then!  Don't any support guys work on a weekendl?  If not, then i don't think it was a wise move on their part to make changes on a Friday... just my opinion!!

Rik

Support works, but not the server configuration man, though he may pick up my email. We agree about Friday upgrades.  :(

Apologies to IDNet   Have said it many times before, go with Gmail. Had zero problems over the past four years including privacy fears that I have found not to be a problem (if it in fact exists?).  I may have been lucky but the service from Gmail has been outstanding and their spam filter is second to none. And heaven forbid, should you wish to change ISP there is no problem with changing your email settings. Can't fault Gmail after four years :thumb:

Rik

Best of all, your own domain, Q, hosted by someone like purple cloud or 1&1.

If support works at the weekend I do question why they hadn't a least answered me, even if only to say they would get it sorted on Monday latest.  I am a little surprised as on the odd occasions I have needed support it has been excellent... I sincerely hope that the level of service isn't going downhill as it would be great shame.

It's quite probable they aren't getting the emails.....

I agree with Rik and Ray - get your own domain with separate hosting.  I use Clook, who I've found to be very reliable.  Not the cheapest, but support is pretty good.  Mind you, having your own domain can bring another set of problems  ;)

How did you make contact?

I used both the web form and another email address and as other people have replied to emails I know my other address is working fine... I think you are being kind to them... maybe its more likely they are inundated with support emails after Friday's change  ::)
