I've always been a WordPerfect user, but it seems to have virtually disappeared from the market now.

I can do most things I need to in Word, but one thing is defeating me. In WP, I can insert a change to the top margin on a page, and it takes effect from that page onwards. In Word, it seems I can only adjust the margin for the whole document. If anyone can tell me what I'm missing, I'd be grateful.

Not sure about how it's done in Word, but in Open Office you can define different " Page Styles" and then apply them to any one or range of pages.

So you would create a standard page style and then copy it into a new style and change just the one margin so that all other variables remain the same across the document.

Why are you paying for such software when that money should be spent on food ?  ;D

2003/7, Den.

@Simon, if I change it there it seems to insist on changing for the whole document.

I think this is a way of doing it.

At the bottom of the first page you want to change go to Insert>Break>Section Break

Then I think you can alter the settings for pages above and below this break to different settings.

What version is that Rik 2003 or 2007   2003/7 sounds like 2005  ;D

I just drag the margin as shown in the picture, Rik, and the change applies to all pages.

It's the all pages I need to avoid, Seb. In letters, I have the letterhead on p1, so use a small margin, which I then want to increase for subsequent pages.

Ah, woops. :red:

Must read properly. ;D

Rik

Me too, most of the time. ;D Loz's suggestion works perfectly. Now I need Sue, who's been trained on Word, how come she didn't know how to do it.

I'm technically an MS certified Word expert - but that was MSO 2000 - now I use OpenOffice - so I guess I'm next to useless in this thread.

Ermm - why did I bother posting?
