Last night I received an email from my son-in-law containing this:

QuoteNew router up and running, followed setup instructions from tripod for dual ssid 2700, no problems.  Just got download speed of 3005 at 8:25pm.  No probs with video playback etc.  All devices working.  Upload 374.

Tonight I have replied as follows:

QuoteI still cannot believe that you have got over a two fold improvement in speed from the 1400 kbps I saw on the day we ran the CAT5 cable from the Master Socket in your lounge to your office, through the 2500 kbps a fortnight later when the ADSLNation face plate was fitted still using your Netgear Router to just over 3000 kbps with the brand new (S/N -008) 2Wire BT Business Hub you got on eBay for 99p +p&p. This has to be a success story worthy of a post on the IDNetters forum!

If you get 3005 kbps at 8:25 PM it could well be considerably more if you re-sync at an off peak time.

At his exchange Tiscali is on LLU so there is of course no contention by stealth with a BT IP Profile to limit him.
Regards,

Les.

I had this in an email this evening:

QuoteLast test today - 3161.  Sometimes over 3200, only rarely going below 3000

So it is holding up and standing the test of time!  :thumb:

Before using a twisted pair in a CAT5 cable and obtaining the 2Wire 2700HGV this connection was about 1400 kbps.

Les.

That really is fantastic!

I can hardly believe it myself Lance but I know from the day they signed up for ADSLmax that they could rarley get over 2 Mbps and this was with a respectable new Netgear Wireless Router.

I was invited to visit a month or three ago with the remit to "improve their broadband speed"!   :dunno:

Anyway I recommended they buy an ADSLNation faceplate to replace the BT NE5 one and got hold of a length of CAT5 cable because the route to where the Netgear plugged in was a dubious one through rambling voice extension cable albeit with the bell wires removed from previous advice I had given.

On the day I visited the ADSLNation faceplate had not arrived but we ran in the CAT5 cable by the shortest convenient route and I crimped an RJ12 plug directly on the end of the wire to plug into the Router. That day with the Netgear through the existing extension wiring the best download throughput speed I saw with BBMax was 1400 kbps.

I went back when the ADSLNation faceplate was available, fitted it and made off the CAT5 cable to the connections on the back of it.
Like this with the ADSLNation faceplate, the CAT5 cable and the Netgear router the speed improvement was 2500 kbps. I took one of my single SSID 2Wire routers and we saw over 3000 kbps that same day.

I recommended the purchase of a Dual SSID 2700HGV because of my own (and others) bad experiences with the 12 day reboot issue and the single SSID one we were using had started exhibiting this problem prompting me to get my own current dual SSID one. The latest numbers that have been posted are with their new dual SSID 2700 that was obtained on eBay for the princely sum of 99p plus about a fiver p&p. What good value is that?

Les.

To think we used to pay £80+ for routers.
