Up to this update I had none of the pesky permissions that are supposed to be ok it was blank, clean slate since Lion. One update and I have dozens ahh well.  ::) I always run a permissions check after an update as some times you do get a few that are fixed, but not this time. Messy update.

I skipped Lion and, I must confess, I've never checked on Mountain Lion... I've just tried a run and you're right- only 2 errors instead of dozens, both properly corrected. One lives and learns ;D

Apple clearly have a hankering for the old days :P

edit- one repair didn't take, Java plug-in file.

Not yet- I'll wait until tomorrow when (hopefully) the IOS 7 rush has died down and I can get a decent d/l speed.

Looks like the App Store is still busy... d/l should have taken less than 20 seconds, it actually took nearly 10 minutes :(

(edit- Showing on my BQMs too, bad timing on my part)

Installed smoothly enough, though I haven't explored it yet. I see what you mean about the mess of permissions, very shoddy work somewhere :shake:

11.1.1 does not make permissions any better, nor did the supplemental update. Guess that wont get fixed to OS X Maverick. (cant stand the name)

For manual downloader types, Flash player 11.9.900.117 is up on the Adobe site. Just install over the old version.

Java OS X update 2013-005 for Mountain lion and Lion and update 17 for 10.6 has been released.

Java for OS X 2013-005 delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_65.

On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled "Missing plug-in" to download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.

Please quit any Java applications before installing this update.

New versions of iLife and iWorks available today, I'm assuming free to new Macs and iOS devices but at a cost as an upgrade.

No iPad 5 - new models are the iPad Air and the iPad mini with retina display, interestingly the iPad 2 will still be available as a cheaper full size iPad.

Yes, just been reading. The Air certainly looks a nice bit of kit.  Might even get one myself.  I thought that I read though, that they were discontinuing the iPad 2.

That bezel edge will be damaged very easily, the iPhone 5 and 5s both were very easy to damage also anodising will wear off same as the iPhones. I like its thinner and lighter though. My iPad 4 will be ok for another year I think somehow.  ;) As for Mavericks I'll watch and wait. ML works fine as is for now.

I'm a bit disappointed at the cost of the iPad Air. It won't stop me buying one (32/64 GB + cellular £579/£659) but I was hoping for something a little less pricey. That said the move towards including some rather good free apps is a bonus.

Mavericks download is 5.29Gb we'll see what it looks like.  The iPad 2 and the iPad mini I  believe are still current models with the iPad Air and the iPad mini with retina display.

It's 'thinner and lighter' that bothers me - will that equate to being delicate and flimsy?

I wonder whether this Mavericks install is the longest ever, left the MBP working overnight but did part close the lid, woke up with it stating 4 minutes left I guess it must have gone to sleep as well. Although I was worried that it might have stalled but it's still plodding along. It's managed to reboot and states completing the installation so it's  :fingers:
