Mavericks on the MBP seems fine so far touch wood. Just waiting for Chord Electronics to decide why their DAC won't play with Mavericks. There's a few DACs that needs specific drivers both in Windows and OS X , it will be a generic driver somewhere  in the component list that needs an update.

Well my iMac no longer sleeps under OS X  10.9    I'm not the only one either, seems the human interface process stops it. How did these get past testers, even latest iMacs are doing it with fusion drives  :shake:

I think when you intend to bring out all those updates on the same day, it does not surprise me that all is not well. My iMac does sleep but it's 2009 vintage. The MBP has been fine,I did have to log out and log in to iCloud to get the new iCloud features to work correctly.

The Mac mini is staying on ML for the foreseeable future, the 2008 MacBook is loading Mavericks today and possibly tomorrow >:D

Hi all

Just been in a conversation with Apple re Maverick, my download speed is so poor it cannot cope with Mavericks, Quote Apple.!!!

Does anyone have a copy of Mavericks file on a bootable USB key that I could borrow to do the update to my laptop which I will obviously return asap.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Rogerp

Steve

I'll have a look this weekend I may be able to upload it somewhere, it's 5.2Gb

Steve, I can put it on my server if you want? Have you got a link to it from Apple which I can download rather than you needing to upload?

It's only available by the Apple Apps store, it's just that I saved a copied before I installed it.

Edit: I wonder why Mediafire,Google Drive and Box don't want to know, I wonder if Apple's done something to prevent distribution

Whats more annoying is my external drive wont sleep now when it did before even if I force my mac into sleep it by clicking on the setting, and then it takes ages to do it, as it does not obey the energy saving settings. More and more disheartened with Apple as time goes on I have to admit. If the Xperia Z1 I bought had not been so buggy (and huge) I would have kept it. I'm starting to feel that updates to hardware make sod all difference as I never notice the speed bumps, QC is getting worse and Apples deny all attitude just stinks. Samsung and the rest are no better, its all about getting the card out of you wallet every year or two it seems for a bunch of features no one needs, but in Apples case force you to use. like no syncing between iTunes and the iPhone any more with contacts and calendars, its iCloud or nothing.  >:(

Perhaps it's time you moved to Windows 8 Gary. I'll stay where are am for the time being until someone brings out a family of products that work seamlessly with each other but then again I've never been worried about iCloud either. ITunes is a good music player I use it every day but I don't let my phone or iPad anywhere near it.

Thing is that isn't the case in mavericks at this time as you mentioned though, Steve. Also I don't need devices to do that anyway. I wont go back to windows, I may go back to real life, the way it was before I ever bought a damn computer...I miss those days. ;)

Oh I agree it's no fun spending hours in front of any OS unless it's a Kindle.

Ditto :(

I don't feel as strongly about it as Gary seems to, but then I haven't installed Mavericks yet :P

I'll give it until 10.9.1 (or maybe .2, depending) but I've been looking at Linux recently... I think about the only program I use that isn't available on that platform is iTunes, and I gather the Windows version runs happily enough under WINE.

I'm running Ubuntu on an old Vista laptop at the moment, but it's only got 1GB of RAM so it struggles a bit, and quite a few people have said there are better flavours around. I really need another machine to try it out properly, but that will have to wait until the credit card has recovered a bit from the last couple of months :eek4:

Although I'm still happy this will be the first year for awhile that they've not had a major purchase from me, as things stand it could well be this time next year before they receive another donation.

ARDagent 3.7 doesn't play with firewalls on! i.e. no remote desktop or screen sharing.

This year mavericks feels rushed and very unfinished even for a point release, iOS7 needed 3 patches in quick succession, iPhone 5s issues with build quality in the million with loose power buttons that rattle and can be heard in calls and videos. Apple really are not doing as well. I'm sure Mavericks will get plugged soon enough but Apples quality is down hill, the latest iMacs I would not touch with barge poll with glued in screens and bad image retention. Macbooks costing thousands that if the headphone socket gets loose its because it snapped off the soldiered board and that's that, ram soldiered down along with batteries glued in now. Expensive and non fixable, god help you if you don't have Apple care. I know more manufacturers are going over to this model, but in this price range? OS X was a great OS and it feels Apple left it behind while trying to get iOS7 out so both suffered from not being baked long enough.  :( I guess I'm fed up of being the beta tester for so many companies these days.

I've often wondered at the desire to bring out a new release of OS X and iOS  on a yearly basis, there were few updates to both after the initial release , SL which was a fine OS IMO was regularly updated before Lion.

I think the two year cycle gave a better and more stable release, this one year cycle especially for desktops just leaves to much room for error, and Apples secrecy and silence on problems does not help. SL was a damn fine OS, Lion was horrible, ML was ok for me, apart from some bugs in 10.8.5 which got fixed, and now 10.9 is a mess tbh. I can use it but it really needs work. If you leave it till 10.9.2 or later it will be nearly time for the next release. You only seem to get a few months of good stability out of each OS. Also 10.9 was a big security update and ML is now left with major holes in its firewall amongst a few other things  :shake:

Marvellous , at least I've no holes in my ML firewall as I've turned it off! ;)  I do have one on the router so all is not lost.
