I have a question. I accidentally updated (I thought I was updating the iTunes) my iPhone OS a couple of weeks ago which appeared to wipe everything stored on the phone and then restored it again. Is this to be expected every time I update the OS? Everything appears to be intact but it didn't appear that the phone was synced before the OS was updated.

I always back up the phone before an update, I'm pretty sure my last update did not involve any wipe/restore.

I've never had a wipe an restore on upgrade either. Normally it just installs and that's it.

I was under the impression that iTunes backed everything up, loaded the new OS, then restored.  This is why jailbreaks are wiped when you upgrade the OS.

It does that when restoring, Simon. When I updated to 4.3 the only thing it reloaded was my photos, everything else was left intact but of course updating firmware and software will wipe your jailbreak.

It sounds like what happened shouldn't have happened then. I'd deliberately not upgraded the OS just in case I wanted to jailbreak the phone so I was a least three upgrades behind.

As I'm still one update behind and the damage is done, I'll go get it now and see what happens. Thanks for the replies :thumb:

It updated without wiping the data this time so why that happened last time I really don't know. Anyway everything seems to be in order including my reminder that I'm meeting a client for a late lunch at a posh French restaurant. TTFN, I might be gone a while as the client is paying ;D

I wonder if it was because the phone was a few versions out of date? Wouldn't have thought it matters though.

Enjoy!  :)

Thanks, I did  :eat:

What did make me laugh is my client appears to have the same taste in food as my other half and ordered a galvanised bucket of par-boiled crustaceans floating in bilge water :ack:

That's all I could think of Lance. It did worry me a little at the time but all my data seems to be intact.

What did you go for, Zap?

I had marinated salmon with grapefruit, cucumber and fennel to start, navarin of lamb with braised red cabbage main course and plum tart with clotted cream to finish. It was all rather nice and ridiculously expensive at £235 for two (no alcohol) :eek4:

Same here, although if you open the app store you get a console spew now about bitmap context  :dunno:

Same here... but it still seems to work OK so sod it ;D

I try to avoid looking in the system log, practically everything seems to shove some sort of error message in there without anything actually mattering :dunno:

4.3.1 is out for the iphone. I've been checking every day curious to see how long it will take them to fix the wireless problem on the ipad2. No idea what it fixed as it didn't tell me ::)

Ah well. Lets see if my phone battery is dead in the morning.

Look on the apple site, as to phone battery draining, I never had your issue, but it seems to be better anyway on 4.3.1 so maybe it should, I get just about two days out of my iphone 4 with wifi on 24/7 browsing app usage etc.

Battery life is MUCH better now. I left the phone on overnight (I'm off work I'll, so I've got nothing better to do!) and it used 11% with wireless enabled. Pre update you'd be lucky if the phone had more than 20% left with that on, overnight.
