Blood hell, 30 mins later with the scroll bar saying 1 minute left to complete it's finally finished. Perhaps I should have done a clean install, now I've got another 5Gb of download to update the apps which seem to be free ie iWork and iLife. I did think I might have to pay but seems that's not the case but possibly as a previous owner their free as well.

If I learned anything it's don't give up on it, the temptation to turn it off was great.

looks like Garageband is free as well and I've never purchased that before.

GarageBand's new feature, Drummer, is really quite impressive. It was announced yesterday that Apple are no longer charging for a lot of software including updated operating systems and some of their more major apps.

Whilst as an existing user it wasn't clear to me whether the App upgrades would be free, but good news nevertheless. An updated OS with new memory, video and power saving features plus the whole desktop suite of iWorks and iLife updated for nothing unless of course the 10Gb download on my other machines takes me over my monthly allowance. One disadvantage of the App Store is the absence of the original install file to copy across to my other machines , I did however save the OS install file before installation so at least that can be copied across.

Not sure that will help, but this might.

I think as long as I'm not doing a clean install I'm hoping the the 5.2Gb file DL file will work when copied across,I'll find out later. Otherwise as you indicated Bill it's  via USB flash but I seem to recall it worked with ML. I've three more machines to do and it would be nice not to waste 15Gb of download bandwidth.

Working on the old adage that nothing in life is free, I wonder how they'll make their money back for the software?

I think looking at hardware sales for both PCs and Macs, I look at as a gimmick in some ways however in reality if you do buy a Mac provided you don't need any of the professional software there is nothing else required in software terms.

Safari 6.1 for ML

Both 6.1 for ML and 7.0 for Mavericks seem much quicker than the previous version

Safari 6.1 for ML

Also iTunes 11.1.2 and Remote Desktop Client 3.7.0, presumably both for ML.

Not sure what versions I've got but 11.1.2 is Mavericks compatible and I updated RDP this am

What I did miss last night was iOS 7.0.3 another 68mb to download

When I looked last night the store just showed the Safari update, today it's a semi-combined one with all three. About 150MB.

There's also a bit at the bottom which I've never noticed before- "Show incompatible app updates". Lists iPhoto 9.5 and iMovie 10.0 with the comment "Requires OS X 10.9", no doubt a hint to upgrade the OS :P

I suppose the latter maybe useful if it saves me visiting the App Store for every device.

Well I went for it, Mavericks what a load of rubbish, its buggy as hell, slow, and stalls on shutdown. Time machine animation is gone, in fact time machine external drives on my iMac stay yellow like a standard drive till there is a backup then it turns green with time machine icon and that can take an hour. Apps take longer to open, lots of pin wheels doing relatively small tasks (clean install) and now Apple have taken away the ability not to use iCloud to sync calendars contacts for iPhone/iPad. Its icloud or nothing!  Looks like its back to ML via clean install when the internet is fast enough to use since the great slowdown today  >:(

I was bored, and tbh Mountain Lion was less buggy  ::) Apple QC is really going down hill, I can see why Mavericks is free!

My Mac Mini music server is going back to ML right now, at least Command + R and a Time Machine restore from this morning should work or I hope so. ;D

I don't need an Internet connection to go back to ML, I should be as I was at 06:30 in 10 minutes time, my music server is just an OS install with the music on a separate Firewire drive

After all this mucking about I'm going for a clean install back. I find time machine backups are never great, ML also had a bad bug where they didnt all work  ::) Pondini (rip) was working on what was the cause. Also it occupies a few hours  ;D

Steve

Well perhaps I was lucky but the Mac Mini is now back to ML and my DAC is working again, only 17Gb restore so didn't take long at all. It looks and works just like it did this morning.

What I tried to do last night was download ML from Apple App Store> previous purchases. I was unsuccessful I guess it can be found elsewhere if required but the restore is looking good.

Glad it worked, Steve.  :thumb: I might ride Mavericks out, after a day it seems to have bedded in a bit. Hopefully a 10.9.1 will make things better. Still angry I'm forced to use iCloud when I really don't want to though.
