iTunes 11.2.1 released it fixes a bug that hid /Users folder which is a top-level folder that contains the home folder and personal files for each user on a Mac. Also Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.05 was released at some point in Apples update fest.

Looks like it effected peeps with find my mac enabled. So yep Public beta testing, and 10.9.3 still didnt cure the external firewire 800 drives not spinning down when the Mac sleeps. Mavericks has to be the buggiest OS Apple have released. I think its all hands on deck for iOS 8 and iPhone 6 hype now. Wow a 4.7" screen, marvel at the wonders of technology <cough>

True but I've never had a sound card problem re installing OS X either.

I've done it to go back to a previous version when a third party device manufacturer  had not updated their drivers. It was all very easy no software to find it just appeared over the my LAN and self installed with no interaction from me apart from the initial command.

I have an iMac which arrived with OS X Leopard and it's gone through several OS X upgrades without any reinstall and indeed only restarts itself when an OS upgrade is required , so in 5 years it's probably only turned itself off and restarted 20-30 times, otherwise it's on or asleep.

It's a benefit of a closed verses open architecture model, Apple know the specs of the machines they support, where as a Windows PC can have 1000's of permutations.

These days thats meaning less than it used to, Glenn. They seem happy to spend billions on Beats Audio for instance but don't have enough architects to work on iOS and OS X at the same time so one suffers (OS X) its almost time for OS X 10.10 and they never fixed Firewire drives not sleeping with the computer as they should which works fine in 10.8. I would still says OS X is more stable than Windows and thats not being a fan boy its my personal observation, but lets just say I liked Apple more when it had 'computer' in its name

I agree it seems that OS X has taken a back seat to iOS but I guess that's where the profit is, in tablets and phones.

The thing is some people still would want a Mac book rather than an iPad. I really hope 10.10 is better, and also that my ageing 2011 iMac can run it because Apple are not getting any more money out of me for phones or computers. I have had my fill.

I agree . I use my iPad a lot but in reality any similar functioning Tablet would be acceptable. When if my hardware becomes obsolete I'm not sure which path to take , there are few tasks I perform these days  that need real computer power but I wouldn't wish to be not able to do them.

I know what you mean, Steve. I cant justify Apple tax anymore but I would hate to be without the computer for those tasks as you say

I really am seriously thinking of an alternative to the iPhone.  I'm itching to upgrade, so as to get more storage space, as much as anything else, and a device with upgradable storage, against paying Apple well over the odds for the additional space, almost seems a no brainer.  I'm sorely tempted by the HTC One M8, but it's just that it's Android, plus, I'll be sick if I upgrade now, then the iPhone 6 really does turn out to be something special.

I think the iPhone is something special but personally this time round I couldn't justify the cost, hence the reason I went for a much cheaper Android.

You will have to fork out more for a 32GB version and apart from having a few more bells and whistles and a maybe a 4.7" big deal... my 5s is fine at 4" till it dies I wont buy another iPhone ever again. I would be more interested in the Android silver thing when google get that together, more frequent updates etc. Nothing wrong with Android, it works well, its just that HTC an Samsung have added so much clutter a basic 16BG model is filled with bloat that you end up with 8GB phone sometimes.

They are Android based phones not Android phones. Also no phone is worth £600 + its a mugs game. What more can you possibly squeeze out of a phone you will actually use?  Wearable tech will break the rut phones are in, I suppose the Galaxy S5 is dust and waterproof but even that is having poor sales. As to the HTC M8 it's pretty but not at that price, and the camera has odd reviews, also I just don't trust HTC to keep that phone relevant for more than a year and I'm not playing the upgrade game anymore. Vanilla Android handsets have so much more going for them, and they don't have to cost the earth.

It's a shame we have such poor Mobile infrastructure outside the big cities in the UK , there should be no need to use your phone as a mass storage device, music should be streamed to it IMO.

I agree, but even with 4G speeds mobile BB costs way to much per GB. People are locked into hardware. As to the specs war its all marketing hype, I still have yet to see a friend use a 2Ghz quad core phone with 3GB ram for more than a bit of web browsing watching a youtube vid or hoping on facebook and maybe playing some tunes, but having the numbers gives them bragging rights, thats all.
