Well I've been slowly dropping all wek from 7mb, to 6.2 to 5.4 but tonight it's gone way down to sky\Bt speeds..

SNR has dropped to 1.9!

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9507 kbps 1156 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 1.9 db 6.0 db

also unable to test packet loss

Dalkeith exchange is mine

What do you get if you try to ping www.idnet.net via a dos window, or directly from your router, if it has the option?

Can you manage to do a BT Speedtest?

I can ping with no problem at average of 34ms

However BT have done the nasty on me!

Download speedachieved during the test was - 898 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :9507 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1156 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1000 Kbps

exchange congestion ?????

Lance

The bt speedtest shows that at some point there has been a lot of noise on your line and it has resynced at a really low speed. This in turn has caused your profile to drop to 1mb.

Since then, you have had another resync taking your sync much higher so all you can do is sit and wait for the profile to catch up. Unfortunately this can be up to 5 days, but bigger jumps such as this will normally happen within 3.

It's not exchange congestion, it's instability, which has caused the profile to drop, and therefore throughout. Could you try the test socket?

Colin Burns

i really need to learn to read evil BT speed tests

in the test socket, still at 1.02mb. and seemingly getting slower. it stopped altogether for an hour. I'm guessing BT are doing something in the area, would be nice to get a warning.
welcome to britain, where nothing works. wish I lived in albania. they have better broadband than here

Your speed won't improve until your profile has lifted. What Sebby should have asked is for your router stats when connected to the test socket. This would than give a possible indication as to whether the noise pick up was internal or external to your wiring.

From the look of it, I would say it was external and therefore there is nothing you can do. If I were you, I would just relax and let the profile catch up with the sync :)

They are a bit like tea leave apparently.   ;)
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

I've sent a call to support as well, as I'm in the test socket and tried a quiet line test which was fine. I just hate this countries primitive broadband network. but until BT decide to actually spend money on upgrading rather than bonuses, then we just have to stick it.

I'd say it's more likely to be a line issue. As Lance mentions, the speed won't improve until the profile recovers. I should have been clearer, but the purpose of the test socket is really to see if stability improved. Ideally, you'll need to leave it connected there for a few days.

Rik

Of course, there is also a rolling program of BT engineering work over the next few weeks, desperately playing catch up with demand.
