It seems that Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network, and so this is how a deal has been reached. It's a bit of a shame really.

Lance

Hopefully, though, it will encourage O2 to make some investment in their poor 3g network. :pig:

T-Mobile/Three hope to finish their mobile broadband coverage by 10/2010, their website did say 2008 a few months ago, so take that with a pinch of salt.

Unlikely. Tbh, I'm not so fussed now I know the iPhone is coming to Vodafone.

Orange has the biggest 3G network in the UK Sebby, but for me Vodafone is the best signal around here, so I may well be using them in my iPhone at points, now its unlocked.

Sebby

That's the problem with Orange. They may have the best 3G network, but signal strength is poor in a lot of places, in my experience.

Rik

No one network really seems to have covered everything, do they. :(

You're absolutely right, Rik. O2 seem to have good coverage, but a lousy 3G network.

Rik

If only the networks could agree a roaming arrangement so that, wherever you were, you had a good signal.

Sebby

That would be great. Unfortunately, that'll never happen as good coverage is a selling point.

Rik

Even if it is patchy. :(

O2 were going to share masts with Vodafone, which is a good thing, seems like they don't want to though, as there is a Vodafone mast in our village and we get maximum 3g coverage, yet the O2 transmitter is quite away away and non 3G but go 1000 yards to my right and you hit the next Cell for O2 which is 3G  >:(

Afaik, it was never actually masts, Gary. At first, the details that surfaced were sketchy and many jumped to the conclusion that they'd be sharing masts. It was, in fact, just things like power.

Lance

I've never understood why the mobile companys haven't formed a joint venture and shared the capital costs or installing the masts. It would leave them free to concentrate on improving poor customer service!

Oh , if thy had actually shared masts that would make life so much easier, and cut out planning consent issues as well in respect you dont have to site a new one
